Why aren't any VPNs working?

This question is in response to many of the issues about non-working VPNs.

After months of using VPNs and many hours of research, I still have no clue why none of the VPNs that I have installed work. I have several computers that I use a VPN for, and never once has a VPN not worked. The VPNs I have tried have been:

Norton and Privitera VPNs. Private Internet Connection. Windows 7 VPN on a separate laptop. VPN Connect VPN on a separate laptop. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

Solved! ? I'm sorry to disappoint, but I have no idea. I've been using VPNs for over a year now, so I can say that this is a problem. This is not an easy solution either.

Please note, I am not trying to be rude, but I'm just telling it like it is. After all, this would be a lot easier to fix if everyone told you why they aren't working. In my experience, many people do not have the time or inclination to tell you why they aren't working.
