What is special about Hana-Maui?

In the last few weeks we have posted photos and videos of Hana-Maui.

We are very excited to share this special place with you. It is our favorite.

So ? Hana-Maui is a property unlike any other. This one has been in the same family for three generations and it is truly special to be able to share the place with our guests.

The history of this place goes back more than 200 years and this is where George Kipnes Jr. Built his house. In 1833, George Kipnes Jr. Returned to Hawaii from a trip to Tahiti and was given this property by Queen Kaahumanu as a wedding gift. She wanted him to build her a beautiful home.

From 1833 to 1847, Mr. Kipnes was the Queen's primary consort and served as the Royal Governor of Maui and Molokai.e. During this time, he constructed the Hale O Keawe (King's Bath) which is the largest outdoor bath in the world. It can hold up to 300 bathers at a time. The bath had a very long life. In 1907, the Hale O Keawe was used as a training facility for the army in WWI.

After building the Hale O Keawe, Mr. Kipnes' work on the property became quite extensive. He built many other buildings and homes. The Kipnes family is the longest continuous line of landowners on Maui.

Mr. Kipnes Sr. Did not live long after completing the Hale O Keawe. His wife Kaahumanu and son, George III who was named after his father were the only ones that lived there. On October 17th, 1871, George III married his childhood friend, Mary Ann Davenport. Together they would go on to have 8 children and 3 grandchildren.

George III and Mary Ann had their own children in the Hale O Keawe. One of their children was Mary Ann Kipnes. She married William B. Colton and together they would go on to have a daughter, Elizabeth.

When Mary Ann died in 1937, the home was inherited by Elizabeth. Her sister, Alice was married to Richard Dick Hunt.

Is the Travaasa Hana-Maui all-inclusive?

I would like to book the Travaasa Hana-Maui for December and March, but I am worried that it might be an all inclusive resort.

I am a diabetic, so there are several things I can't have. Is it possible to make specific requests about what I can or can't have? I do not need a restaurant, but maybe a snack bar? And, does it matter which room type I choose? I'm not fussed about views. Thanks for your help!

Answers. Hi.e. The Travaasa Hana-Maui is not an all-inclusive resort. If you want a specific list of foods, we can help you with that. You can contact our Food and Beverage department for any special dietary needs. However, at this time, the resort does not have a snack bar.

We are located in the most pristine beach on the Island. All our rooms offer a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean or the Haleakala Crater. A variety of room options are available for you to choose from. We also offer a variety of room options at the Beachfront, Waterfront, and Balcony/Poolside locations. The resort is open year round and offers a wide variety of activities including snorkeling, kayaking, sailing, horseback riding, parasailing, tennis, volleyball, fitness, etc. For your enjoyment. We also have our own private beach and are proud to offer this free of charge.
