I understand that, but I'm using a VPS machine as an openVPN server. The question is about where do you store the OpenVPN configuration file on your machine? Because I see that most people out there use their home directory, but I'm thinking of using some other place.

The question is a bit open-ended, so let's call it like that: Where should I store my OpenVPN configuration files? I think that in your case a different location than the home dir makes sense - for example, /etc or /usr/local/etc. That way, if your configuration file gets corrupted, it won't be the only file that gets hosed up. Of course, depending on what you are using it for, it might not be safe to make it world readable, but I can always chmod the stuff that's used for OpenVPN alone and be fine with that.
