How to set SOCKS5 proxy in Edge?
I'm trying to set up a SOCKS5 proxy on my computer running Windows 10. I'm trying to set it up so that I can use it for things like connecting to Steam, and then from Steam connect to games running on my computer, but it's not working. I tried setting it up on the registry, but it wasn't working. I tried the other solutions I found online, but they didn't work either.
This is what I tried to do: 1) Open the Command Prompt as Administrator. I have not worked with SOCKS in Windows before, so I don't know what I'm doing. I'm not sure why it's not working, I just need help getting it to work.
I don't have an internet connection at home, so I have to use my computer at work. I only have a WIFI connection, so I don't have access to my own computer at home.
I was able to set up a SOCKS5 proxy on my computer running Windows 7, and I was able to use it to connect to Steam. I used this method to set it up: 1) Open the Command Prompt as Administrator.
How to use SOCKS5 proxy on browser?
I am a beginner in this field so I just want to ask how to put a SOCKS 5 proxy on Chrome, Internet Explorer, Firefox and Opera?
It seems complicated for me to find the answer on google. If someone has any experience for it, please help me! Thanks.
For Internet Explorer: Click on the Tools menu, and then click on Internet Options. Click the Connections tab. Click the LAN Settings button. Select "Proxies (Internet Explorer 7)", and then press the Add button. Enter in the Proxy address box, where host is what you would use to navigate to the desired host, and port is what you would use as the default port for all connections to that host. Click OK to apply the changes, and then OK again to close the dialog box. Alternatively, just double-click on the icon in the Internet Explorer toolbar for IE7. For Firefox: Right-click the Firefox icon in the system tray, and select the option Open about:config. Open the network configuration dialog by selecting the Edit menu and clicking Preferences. Make sure the checkbox for the proxy.pac file is not checked.
Click the OK button on the dialog. For Chrome: Click the Chrome menu button, select Options, then click On the next page. In the search box at the top of the window, type proxy, then click the first autocomplete result, Google Chrome proxy settings . Select Use a proxy server for your connection or No proxy server for your connection. Select SOCKS proxy from the list of proxies to use, and then click the Details button in the lower left. Add the SOCKS host and port addresses or SocksHost, SocksPort respectively. You can use the fields to create a user-friendly URL for your connection.
Click the Update Now button.
How do I use SOCKS5 proxy on Windows?
By default Windows does not support SOCKS5 proxies.
Therefore if you want to use a SOCKS5 proxy on Windows you need to enable it. This could be easily done by changing the following registry key: HKEYLOCALMACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionNetworkDriversTeredoProxy
For example if the default setting is No proxy and you want to set it to use MyProxy then it should be changed to Yes, for more info see the MSDN article ().aspx).
The Teredo proxy will be used as the proxy for your network connection and the host name must be the machine name, otherwise it won't work. If you want to use a different hostname then you need to use another proxy such as the Proxy for Windows in the list above.
Setting up Proxies. The easy way to install proxy addresses for most web browsers is to configure Internet Explorer. This can be found under the Tools menu. Select Internet Options. Click on the Connections tab. If you don't see the Connections tab, then right click on the internet icon and select Connection Settings or click on Options. In the resulting dialog box click on the LAN Settings button and choose the Manual settings option.
In the following screenshot we have the options on the left, the address of the Proxy on the middle, and the port of the connection on the right: To configure another application, simply open up its config file and add the required information. For example I use FoxyProxy as my standard SOCKS5 proxy for web browsing, Skype and other applications that I want to use a SOCKS5 proxy.
FoxyProxy config files. To configure FoxyProxy just open the file called "FoxyProxy.exe.config". In the config file we need to include the Host, Port and Path (URL) we wish to use. Note that this assumes that FoxyProxy has been installed correctly. That is using a SOCKS5 proxy is always included with the software. The below is my config file that allows me to connect to the Internet through a SOCKS5 proxy.
