How do I activate my ExpressVPN key?

If you have an ExpressVPN Account with us, follow the steps below to activate your account.

The new ExpressVPN iOS and Mac apps require an ExpressVPN username and a password before you can connect, and you will be able to create them in your new ExpressVPN account.

Step 1. Connect to the Internet on both your iOS device and your Mac (you will see a red dot indicator when you're connected). It will show you connection details like the IP address and speed of your network connection.

The VPN client is now connected. You can now use it by pressing Connect from any app you are using.

Step 2. Open ExpressVPN Connector app. Step 3. Navigate to Settings. Select Access > ExpressVPN Connector. If you are using iOS 11, tap the ExpressVPN icon at the top right of the screen, and select ExpressVPN Connector. Press Connect. Step 4. Enter Your Username. You will see two text fields: Username. Enter your ExpressVPN username A text field will open. Make sure your input is correct and press Done. This will allow you to view and control your ExpressVPN Connection.

First, you need to open the ExpressVPN website and log in to your account.

The first time you run the VPN after installation, you will be prompted to add an IP address (or proxy server) in order to connect to the internet. If you don't have a valid IP address, ExpressVPN will ask you to buy one from them. This process can take some time, so if you are worried, simply go back to the login page and click on 'log in' to avoid any inconvenience.

After logging in, click on 'My Services' on the top-right corner of the screen and scroll down to 'IP addresses' on the left side. Click 'add a new IP address'. You may have to wait a few minutes before the IP address is successfully added. Then, click on 'Save' and click 'Start'.

ExpressVPN works by creating a virtual private network (VPN) tunnel between your computer and the VPN servers. Each VPN server is provided with its own subnet which consists of several IP addresses. When you select a particular server location, you create a connection between your computer and the VPN server. When you enter a URL like into your browser, the IP address that you are using to enter that URL will be replaced with that of the VPN server. Because each IP address belongs to a particular server, this means that the address that you enter in the browser will replace the address of the server, and the contents of the site will be delivered directly to the server.

After the IP address is saved, the VPN is fully activated.

Why is ExpressVPN asking for activation code?

ExpressVPN's request for activation code seems to apply to all of the user's devices?

I've been using the service since before I moved to India. Everything has been working great but recently my laptop and desktop are requesting an Activation Code - why? How can I continue using it as a desktop without having to enter a code? For your PC (Windows PC) use the 'ExpressVPN for Windows UWP', which is available on the Microsoft Store, you will see that all you need is an .exe file to be able to download and use ExpressVPN on your PC. There is a small program there (only about 70kb) and all you need to do is download this. This small program, when installed, will automatically detect your connection to the ExpressVPN server and you are done.

You don't need to enter any codes or create any logins. For your phone: Use the Appstore app from the Playstore and search for ExpressVPN (or look in your device settings to find the VPN app store if you have a different phone than I do). I also use this app (on my Nexus 5) and there is no need to create any logins, or enter any codes. With the VPN app on your phone, it would be like having an encrypted local area network (LAN) that you can connect your PC to send and receive messages between devices, upload a file, download a file, etc. Without having to worry about your traffic getting intercepted.

For your Mac or Linux: You may need to use the 'PPTP VPN client' for your Mac or Linux device. You should be able to find this by looking up "VPN client" on your device. Once you have the VPN client open you will then be able to connect to your ExpressVPN server and you're done. There are instructions for setup for Mac and Linux users in the ExpressVPN site.

A note on using PPTP. If your device is capable of going through VPN connections (meaning that it can get to an IP address) you will still need a login and password as PPTP does not have what we call encryption keys that ExpressVPN does, and they are needed to keep the connections secure. You could also use the OpenVPN app which I have tried and recommend, and is free to use.
