What is proxy on WIFI settings?

The purpose of this is usually to provide an alternative path, in case a single point of failure has been brought out (eg your WiFi adapter). That path could then be set by the user. That way, if something catastrophic happened, he or she can quickly switch back to what's usually working for them. We've used this to get out of situations where some sites were just down.

For what to do: The most straightforward thing is to create a new AP on a network that is far away from any existing APs (we had an option to have a different AP for mobile users that was outside the LAN area), and to change the default gateway to our old switch. Then, when mobile users go to an incompatible WiFi setting, they are directed to our new AP.

If you want to go further than that, I would start with the following things: Enable UPnP in the switch: UPnP is a protocol allowing for automatic setup of services such as DNS and DHCP on a router. This provides much better usability for your users. You should have disabled it for security reasons, since that would put the ports into a state where they are completely unprotected. However, most routers should be able to work without UPnP enabled, so you can keep it off for now.

For my own testing (and also a guide), you can download DD-WRT firmware, at their sourceforge site. They have an OS image and a kernel image. The kernel image goes into the "ramdisk" and then we're good to go. Here is a guide for doing that. The most straightforward way to do it is to use a flash drive. This will work with Windows machines, but can be a bit more tricky with Macs. Then, you'll need some tools for downloading this image (I used WinRar):

Extract the files on the USB drive. Put the USB drive into the computer. Open Command Prompt and type the following. C:>cd c:winrar. Press Enter. C:>xcopy C:DDwrtfiles* C:c:windowssystem32

What does configure proxy mean on an iPhone?

I'm running OS 10.

9.4, and the last time I tried to use the iPhone App Store to install a game I tried to do it via a proxy server. It kept giving me an error:
Error: App Installer couldn't find your proxy settings on the iPhone. Make sure you have a valid proxy server and try again.

If I don't set a proxy server on the iPhone, the App Store works just fine. So I want to know what "proxy settings" means. Where can I find these settings?

From Apple's iPhone/iPod touch Networking Guide: The iPhone uses a proxy server to download content from the App Store. This server provides your iPhone with a web-based version of the App Store that you can access by using the web browser in your iPhone. When you access the App Store via the browser, you connect to a proxy server that lets your iPhone download content from the App Store. Your iPhone connects to this proxy server through the Wi-Fi or cellular network.

The proxy server provides your iPhone with your personal information and settings. For example, your proxy server might know your home address, email address, and password. Your proxy server might also know how to route your App Store traffic to a specific IP address so that you can connect to the proxy server by name instead of by IP address.

Your proxy server may be public or private. If you connect to a public proxy server, your traffic is visible to anyone else who has the same public IP address. If you connect to a private proxy server, your traffic is only visible to those devices that are connected to your private network.

When you use a public proxy server, your proxy server passes your personal information and settings to the App Store. This allows your App Store content to be downloaded without your knowing it.

If you connect to a private proxy server, your proxy server does not pass your personal information and settings to the App Store. Your App Store content is downloaded directly from the App Store.

Should I configure proxy on iPhone?

Hello there.

I have a new iPhone 6 and I'm looking for information on what's good. Here's my question: When I have wifi in places like my apartment, I have to use my macbook to do basic stuff on my phone. However, I don't have access to cable tv or wifi from my couch because my mom would kick me off the computer and if I try and use it to access internet on my phone, which doesn't have good wifi, she's gonna kick my ass too. So does anybody have any solution for this? Should I just keep getting it at the library so I can surf using my macbook? The fact that apple doesn't include cable tv or even allow us to watch cable tv using our phones just makes it impossible, as far as I can tell.

I don't need it for anything really; I mostly use whatsapp, twitter and google maps. The main app I use on my mac is the youtube app for videos and that.

I have both a Macbook Pro 15-inch and an i5 MacBook. All my internet browsing comes from the Macbook. But some applications can't be installed on Macbooks, since they are not Apple Software Development Kits (SDK) certified. I would definitely say that it is possible to use both a Macbook and an iPhone, but it isn't 100% true. I think most people would recommend you connect the internet with your computer because it might give you a better speed. I am no expert on these things though. As for the apps being not Mac compatible, then you can just use an app called MultiBit which can be easily downloaded from either App Store on both Macbooks or iPhones.

Hi everyone. I hope you'll enjoy my post. I'm new to this forum, and I hope you'll all appreciate it because it's free. So, here goes:

So for me, it seems like using an iPhone is kind of like a hobby. I enjoy the idea of it, and I wish I could just have fun with it rather than actually doing much with it. Well I'm not a big iPhone guy right now, but I hope to turn over the idea for it to a friend.

Should configure proxy be off or on?

I'm using WCF service for my client.

And WCF client as the host. So when I turn on proxy on the application then the WCF Service is trying to connect with the server using proxy but it fails and shows below error:
An error occurred while getting proxies for service 'MyService'. The proxy server uses 'direct' which is not compatible with the 'basic' authentication mode. To enable 'direct' authentication in the proxy, either set UseNtlmProtection="false" or use the NTLM security mode. Security requirements could not be met by the target server. See InnerException for more details.

What is the requirement to use proxy? and Is it necessary to turn proxy off to save the bandwidth? The main use of a proxy is that in some circumstances you can be sure that the network traffic leaving your system doesn't go through a network gateway or firewall (which could block it) - the proxy is usually an intermediary between your service and the rest of the network. In your case, the proxy would need to be configured to be transparent to the client - that is you wouldn't want it blocking any authentication mechanisms. However if this client is accessing the same service from a different machine there won't be any proxy at all, so setting the proxy to "off" is only useful if the client is accessing the service over a public internet connection.

If the client is accessing the service from an internal LAN behind a NAT router, or a company/organisation's firewall, then yes a proxy is certainly going to help - it provides a way to bypass this, by allowing your service to receive the traffic directly from the client (or from another internal machine via the NAT gateway). So - it depends on what type of access you are expecting from the client.
