Is Google Home Max discontinued?

I know it's been over a year since the announcement.

Are there going to be any updates on the Google Home Max? I'm hoping this isn't yet another Android Wear 2.0. I have been using a Nest Wifi Smart Thermostat 3rd gen so if you've been paying attention, you'd notice my home is set to 75 F in the fall. I like having my thermostat and Home Max running. It makes for a quiet house, at least until Halloween when the kids are home.

Re: Google Home Max discontinued? They still have not fixed the issues or even acknowledged them publicly. Most recent update is in Nov 2025, and it seems there isn't much development happening. If we need to wait, they need to be the first with a working product or at least acknowledge what's happening and when/if a fix will be made available.

The same thing has happened in the past 2-3 years. They had the device ready in November of 2025. Since then it has not moved forward. In October of 2025 they showed the device at I/O. Nothing else since then.

That is not surprising as a lot of their products seem to move very slowly. Even when they work perfectly they don't release a lot of information or documentation.

If Google does ever release information again I will be amazed. They have already spent the most time and money getting this product out in the world. Why let everyone down with even more of a stinker than the first one?

Can Google Home Max play Netflix?

The Google Home Max is one of the best-selling smart speakers on the market, so were curious how this product stacked up to other Amazon Echo smart speaker devices. Specifically, how well can the Google Home Max play Netflix? We know Google Home Max and Alexa support different categories of media streaming services. For example, the Google Home Max can play your Netflix account, but not your Amazon Prime Video account. Likewise, if you have a Roku TV or an Apple TV streaming device, you can only access Amazon Video content via Alexa commands. That means users with these three devices will only be able to access the movies and shows they pay for with a single device, as opposed to the movies and shows they pay for with all three devices.

What we want to know is whether that limitation could apply to some users in certain regions or if that is simply a difference between Amazon's own Fire TV devices and third-party devices. We tested out Google Home Max and Amazon Echo devices with a few different Netflix accounts, and the results are pretty interesting. Netflix account: One, with two separate users. Roku TV/Chromecast. Amazon account: One, paid for with one Amazon Prime Video login and one Fire TV login. IPhone (for Plex Media Server). Blu-ray player. Tablet. Google Home Max works. With one Google Home Max, we were able to access both our own personal Netflix accounts, our Amazon Prime Video accounts, our Roku TV and our Plex Media Server accounts. In other words, the Google Home Max can handle three different content providers simultaneously and access any content providers you want simultaneously without issue. You can even tell your Google Home Max to play from any of those services and it will get it done.

We can make that call because the Google Home Max is one of the very few smart speakers which supports multiple content providers at once. The Echo has similar capabilities, but its selection of content providers is limited to just Amazon's Prime Video content, as you can't say, "Play on Netflix."
Likewise, we can test this same set-up with the Alexa-powered Echo and it gets us access to all the same content providers with no problem.
