What is a good example of feedback?
I am always trying to find more examples of this and it is always kind of hard.
I mean, how can I really see a good example of feedback? Is it when something good happens? or when something bad happens? It seems like there has to be examples of both but sometimes you only get one instance. I feel like examples are so hard to come by.
I'm trying to think of feedback that is positive, but it doesn't seem to be happening that often for me. You're going to have lots of luck, because even the most positive comments about a submission turn up "meh," and the vast majority will have "not that great". I don't really have much to offer here -- it really depends on how specific you want to get. Most examples will be from things that I've already written, so I have to really look through what I've done to find something useful. It's also a lot easier for me to remember the ones that were successful than the ones that were completely unsuccessful.
I agree. If there are any concrete examples of an ideal feedback discussion thread, I would love to know them. I want to know if there is a good example that I can learn from so I can avoid those traps or make sure that I don't fall into them myself. As you said, it usually is very hit or miss. I just try and see what happens.
I guess a couple of thoughts spring to mind for me that seem like they could apply: Have a discussion between someone writing your first draft and someone who had read it previously (for a short piece or long piece, it doesn't really matter). This person should be able to objectively criticize the piece based on how well it was put together and its content. Also, he/she should be able to praise any interesting elements that the writer had in it (especially things they do well).
