Maca is a root vegetable native to the high Andes of Peru, used by locals for centuries.

It's usually sold in supplement stores as a dietary aid. The maca root itself contains an impressive phytonutrient concentration 50 times that of spinach. For example, maca contains antioxidant called L-epicatechin, which some studies suggest may help prevent prostate cancer.

Maca is also rich in minerals and can be easily grown in your own garden. Maca is best used in combination with other herbs or minerals. It helps increase energy, and promotes body awareness and intuition. Use at bedtime. Take as a tincture to stimulate energy and sexual function.

Maca-Tincture. 1 part maca powder. 3 parts rose hips (or other favorite herbal supplement). 12-16 drops frankincense essential oil (optional). Strain and bottle maca-rose-frankincense combination. Rose hips are so tasty that you may be tempted to eat them right out of the juicer. But they contain resins and tannins that may cause nausea, so it's better to ferment the rose hips into juice first. John's wort, or tryptophan, since maca may deplete the body's serotonin levels.

Maca Powder. 1 cup maca root. 1 cup sea salt. 2 tablespoons olive oil. Boil for 10-15 minutes, then strain out the root. Add the strained root to a blender with the salt and olive oil and blend well. Allow the mixture to dry in a dehydrator for 6-8 hours. This is a fine powder that should be stored in an airtight container.

Does maca increase testosterone?

I was reading this forum the other day and saw a thread about what did maca increase testosterone levels.

Maca is one of the best herb to increase testosterone. I was wondering if it did raise your testosterone levels? And for those who do not know what maca is. It is a root that grows in the highlands of Peru. The root has a slight taste. It is said that when you chew it, it stimulates the brain and creates good thoughts.

Re: maca increases testosterone? Originally Posted by D-Man. Maca helps with depression and improves libido. Maca is not mentioned in that thread. No, but the maca root has been used in Peru for centuries to increase energy and endurance in humans and animals. As maca is rich in minerals and vitamins and has a slight taste, it would make sense that it would increase testosterone levels. But since you are asking about testosterone, I'm just going to assume that you mean the level of total testosterone, not free testosterone, which is a small amount of testosterone that's not bound to protein. In which case, I'm sure it does.
