Which Tor Browser is best for Android?

Since the first version of Tor Browser was released for Windows and OS X, a mobile version was also released in 2025.

And from the looks of it, the mobile version of Tor Browser looks very similar to the desktop version of Tor Browser. So I'm assuming it's just a browser extension that changes the appearance of the Tor Browser.

With Android operating systems, the developers usually have to rely on the operating system to handle some things for them. For example, the Chrome version of Tor Browser for Android has a built-in web browser. But if you try to use the Tor Browser for Android, it will open the browser itself instead of loading the actual website. So to get around this, a third-party app called Tor App was created to handle most of the heavy lifting for Tor Browser for Android.

But it seems like the latest Tor Browser for Android no longer uses Tor App. The new version uses the Tor Browser Web Viewer which is a web view that displays the browser of the Tor Browser. And it looks like Tor Browser for Android uses the HTML5 technology, which is more modern and efficient than the older HTML4 technology.

So let's take a look at these three Tor Browser versions for Android and see which one is best for you. TOR Browser for Android. The official Tor Browser for Android was developed by the Tor Project. It was released for Android devices in 2025 and has been updated since then. The Tor Browser for Android comes with its own built-in web browser called Tor Browser Web Viewer.

Tor Browser is based on Firefox and uses a similar interface to the desktop version of Tor Browser. The Tor Browser is free but it can use a lot of bandwidth and data if you're using it to access public Wi-Fi hotspots.

TOR Browser Web Viewer. The Tor Browser Web Viewer is a web view that loads the Tor Browser for Android and displays the content on a webpage. It is much lighter and more efficient than the built-in Tor Browser web browser. If you're using Tor Browser to access public Wi-Fi hotspots, it will likely be more efficient than the built-in web browser.

The web browser part of the Tor Browser for Android is based on Chromium (the same web browser engine that powers Chrome).

Is Orfox still available?

I still have it but that is no longer the way to install or update Ubuntu as I don't want to be bothered by new releases that can be updated online.

It used to offer an older Ubuntu version, 8.04, but there is not such thing anymore. So I just installed Ubuntu using the Windows installer option and then decided to update my OS. The thing is that it didn't even ask me for permission to update the system or install additional software. It just did it in some way and ended up making changes to almost everything, including installing lots of programs that I don't want/need. For example, Firefox, Chrome, Thunderbird, Libreoffice and even Unity.

I've been searching for a solution and I found one. A software called Orfox (Orfox 2) and it is supposedly only the Mozilla Firefox application and since there's only 64-bits versions, it must have been available. In fact, you can still get a link saying "Orfox v.2". But this page no longer works and I have no idea what happened to it.

Does anyone have any information on this? It's possible that they just ended it because it's no longer necessary, and instead the community should go for another alternative. What is the best alternative? Does anybody know? Update: I got answer from one user asking for some clarification and this user asked about Orfox 2. J.K.Jun 18 '14 at 13:30

There has been discussion with the Orfox project on how to move forward with the new version 6 of Orfox which may include adding the Ubuntu repos to their site so that Ubuntu users will be able to have it as an option. However no answer yet.

Even if Canonical started to ship it and Ubuntu was not behind it as soon as we all would have it. This would not make much sense since users are always switching to a better OS. Firefox for Ubuntu will be available again and maybe is already there by a private repository of an Ubuntu developer. (This answer does not mean I know anything about that. Just guessing.
