A few days ago, Google announced some very exciting news: the Chrome OS, as we know it, is now going to be rolling out to many Chromebooks as well.

But what if it was announced at a different keynote? That sounds a lot like a real possibility, doesn't it? Well, turns out it is. And the reason it's a possibility is because we're already seeing Samsung launch some laptops with an Intel-powered Windows software stack as of February 4th. That line would certainly explain the sudden release of an upcoming Intel-powered Windows software stack - though perhaps not quite as exciting as It's getting Windows.

I'm sure there will be more to come in the months ahead. For instance, we wouldn't be at all surprised to see Microsoft roll out support for Windows 7 and Windows 8 to both Intel and AMD chips, as this sort of thing is bound to be a huge part of the coming Windows Blue event that's expected at some point in 2026. We wouldn't be all that shocked to find out at that event that Windows 9 will in fact actually be called Windows 10.

We wouldn't be surprised to hear that it's going to happen by the end of 2026. We wouldn't be surprised to hear the first official announcement of a public developer preview. We wouldn't be at all surprised that Microsoft is already working on Windows 9.

Why isn't all of this surprising to us? Let's look at some of the reasons why. Chromium's history. Most people know that Google launched Chrome, which now has a fairly successful implementation of its own browser interface and its own code base. Most people also know that the Chrome OS didn't come out until a few years later - and that it was based on the same web view that Chrome's version of Chrome would always be based on.

I really need a very basic Google Apps for my business account and all the other Google App services like docs, maps and drive. They only seem to be accessible on android OSes. Can someone tell me please if they are available on other operating systems or do I have to buy a smartphone or tablet. Is it like that? If it can be installed on Windows, will it show up in the app section in settings like iTunes? Or do I download and install the "Google Play Store for Windows" separately somewhere? I just can't find this information online. I have an Acer Laptop running Windows 8 x64. Thanks.

Is there a Google Play store for non-Apple devices. I know it's possible to do it with an Amazon Firestick for some reason I don't know why but that is not available for me to get.

There is no Google Play Store for non Apple devices, as far as we know. I think Amazon is your best bet. I don't know why they haven't come up with a way to include their Firestick/Fire TV, and Kindle, but I don't know if they're thinking about it (that is my guess). Good luck. You might consider asking about a Windows based PC with Linux operating system(Ubuntu), but I don't think anyone has any information regarding that.

Well, I guess the answer is "yes". The issue, though, is how easy it is. A lot of companies sell "Google"-branded Windows Apps that are nothing but glorified wrappers for Google's Google Play Store.

How so? What do you mean? I think you misunderstood my question. My question was not that difficult. All I wanted to know is if I can see and download the "Google" Play Store apps on my laptop that I have which is running Windows 8. I wasn't trying to justify myself that by downloading something from microsoft.com I can get the official apps that Google gives for free or have cheaper apps in exchange. I just wanted to know if I can get Google's play store installed. But anyways, no need to be nasty. As long as I can get the "official" apps and then the unofficial apps, my questions are answered.
