What is the sound and fury album on Netflix?
Netflix's sound and fury: a history of pop culture's loudest outbursts
With the premiere of the first season of the new show Sound and Fury this month, Netflix has decided to give music fans a bit of what it takes for their money - including sound.
This series is billed as a history of music's most notorious acts, from Pink Floyd's The Wall to Nick Drake. Netflix's idea of how to tell a musical story may be a little rough around the edges - there's no interview with any of the band members, there's no live-wire musician interviewed by anyone else to provide a counterbalance to the narrative - but Netflix is making the most of this medium in the streaming age. There's no better way to tell the story of music's worst acts than to put it all in a row of black boxes and a white screen.
The other thing to note about this series is that it's not quite accurate. The story begins with the death of the band's lead singer David Gilmour and moves through the events of The Wall, which were much more than the band's most famous album. The film doesn't cover the story of Pink Floyd's entire career, and doesn't even go into its music and lyrics, which are far more complex than it lets on. What we get instead is a bit of a glorified episode of the 1980s TV show The A Team. It's fun, it's got a few surprises, but as an introduction to the story of Pink Floyd and The Wall it doesn't quite cut it.
Still, the stories are fascinating, and Sound and Fury comes with a few interesting angles on the band and its story. Most importantly, it shows the extent of how much the band changed in the 70s and 80s. For starters, if you're looking for a band that plays the same album its whole career, look elsewhere. While The Wall hasn't aged well, Pink Floyd have played the same three album in its entirety at every tour, with only the addition of one other piece of music to The Wall, Wish You Were Here.
Is Sturgill Simpson related to Loretta Lynn?
The answer is yes and no
Sturgill Simpson's real name is Otis Lee, he claims.
He's from Kentucky. His mother was a school teacher. But the question I want to raise in this blog entry is not whether Otis Lee Simpson is a descendant of the famous music and movie star Loretta Lynn, who was born in Kentucky. The question I want to raise is: Is Otis Lee Simpson related to Loretta Lynn?
In my view the answer is yes, and no. There are four questions in this blog entry. The first question is whether Sturgill is related to Loretta.
The second question is: Is Sturgill related to any other member of the family? Yes, Sturgill is related to the entire Lynn family. In fact, according to Sturgill, Otis Lee is the cousin of the entire Lynn family.
The third question is: Did Otis Lee ever work for his mother's brother or any other relative of the family? The answer is yes. He worked for the entire family. He worked for his mother's brother as a bellboy, and later as a bartender, or bouncer, at a bar called the Blue Ridge Inn. And he served as a bodyguard for his Uncle Frank and Uncle Jack, which included protection from certain elements within the Lynn family.
The fourth question is: Was Otis Lee ever arrested for any crimes or was he ever involved in any illegal activity? Yes, but no. Otis Lee was arrested and charged with public intoxication in 1958. And he was arrested for conspiracy to sell narcotics in 1982, which was not an illegal act. But he was also charged with a crime that did require illegal activity. But he was not charged with that crime. He was charged with accessory to delivery of a controlled substance, a felony, which is defined as follows: A person is an accessory when he renders assistance to another person engaged in the commission of a felony. It is immaterial to the criminality of the act of the principal whether the aid rendered be voluntarily or by coercion, or whether it be rendered before or after the commission of the felony.
