However, you still need to connect the Amazon Firestick to the internet in order to stream Netflix or play games. In other words, you need to purchase a service plan for your Amazon Firestick. And the way to do this is by connecting your Amazon Firestick to your existing wireless network.

What does this mean? It means that the connection speed to your wireless network will become the bottleneck in your Firestick's operation. That means that your Amazon Firestick needs a wireless router that supports the maximum wireless data speed. And that won't happen when you connect the device to your Wi-Fi.

But even if you want to do away with your existing wireless network, the good news is that you can still access the internet through your Firestick. There are different methods to get the Internet onto your Amazon Firestick using only a USB wire. But each one has its own disadvantages:

NordVPN uses OpenVPN and OpenSSL with support for PPTP and L2TP. OpenVPN is a well-known VPN protocol, but it has several weaknesses: It doesn't provide any security from a MITM attack or DNS leak. The protocol is slow and inefficient. It uses UDP with an unreliable connection, and TCP, which is also slow.

It is vulnerable to DoS attacks (denial-of-service). With the mesh network, you will get many of these advantages: DNS leak prevention. Better efficiency. Security from DNS leaks and MITM attacks. Better performance. How does NordVPN protect against DNS leaks? DNS leaks are a major problem with VPN connections. Every time you visit a website that your VPN uses, the DNS requests used to resolve its IP address are sent through your public Internet connection. This could allow attackers to read your browsing history.

The problem is exacerbated by the fact that many organizations rely on their Internet connection as a primary source of connectivity, thus using them as a point of presence (POP) or gateway. If that POP or gateway is insecure or vulnerable, then all your traffic can be intercepted.

This is why, in order to protect against DNS leaks, NordVPN requires you to configure a dedicated DNS resolver server. This server must be configured to receive all DNS queries from your router and use NordVPN's own DNS servers instead.

How does NordVPN prevent DNS leaks? NordVPN uses an OpenVPN server as a gateway to the Internet, and a private DNS resolver to route all DNS requests. NordVPN's private DNS resolver is configured to use DNS servers outside the VPN's network, but still within the same country. This means that when you use NordVPN, the DNS servers NordVPN chooses are not the ones assigned to you by your Internet service provider (ISP).

NordVPN's DNS servers are also chosen to be close to your geographic location, to speed up the DNS request. How does NordVPN use an OpenVPN gateway and a private DNS resolver? NordVPN uses OpenVPN to secure your traffic.

How do I disable Meshnet?

You can not disable Meshnet. By turning Meshnet off you loose all access to internet. When Meshnet is turned on you are no longer in control of the router.

You can turn Meshnet on or off by pressing the 'Mesh Net' button on the front panel of the router. If you set the router to DHCP mode then it will get an IP address from the provider and when you press the button on the front panel it should light up green and return to DHCP mode.

You must be inside of the 10.x subnet (10.1 - 10.254) to do this.

When Meshnet is turned off/off and when it's on you get very different speeds of data transmission. If you switch off Meshnet you will loose all control of the router. No more IPs, or DNS addresses, or any other data. You will loose the ability to change settings.

If Meshnet is not turned on the router will only send and receive information that is assigned to it by a host in its range. I get more wireless range.I don't like Meshnet because I'm paranoid about the security risk.

The router won't allow access to the internet if Meshnet is on. The router might have access to the net and not you. That means someone who isn't at the same location as the router can access the net through your router. Some routers use UDP and are 'open'. If you use UDP then your router might be open. If you use TCP then your router might not be open.

MeshNet is a great idea when it is on but it does come with risks when off and that is why I keep MeshNet On/Off. The MeshNet signal uses UDP. This causes UDP traffic to be sent at a higher rate than TCP traffic which could possibly put a huge load on the CPU of the router.

MeshNet is great because you lose less control over your router. This means you can turn MeshNet Off while connected to the internet. The other option is to turn MeshNet On before disconnecting from the Internet so you stay connected while still having full access to your router.

When meshNet is enabled there is no way to disconnect from the Internet as all IP addresses are managed by MeshNet.
