Is cloud connexa free?
In our last post, we talked about how you can connect your computer to the internet using your local Wi-Fi connection (called a hotspot). If you don't want to use your laptop's own Wi-Fi network (which is called an ad-hoc hotspot), you can connect your computer to your local Wi-Fi network (your office) using a technology called cloud connexa. Cloud connexa is a service offered by your wireless router that lets you access the internet through your home Wi-Fi network. As with all services offered by cloud connexa, the service is free. Why would you want to connect to your office network through your home Wi-Fi network? There are three main reasons: Your Wi-Fi router may have a faster connection to your home network than to the internet. You might want to do other things in parallel that are allowed by your home network, like using another computer. You might not want to share your internet connection with others using cloud connexa. In this post, we'll give you the lowdown on cloud connexa and how you can connect to it through your home Wi-Fi network. What is cloud connexa? If you've ever used a 3G or 4G smartphone to browse the internet while you're traveling, you'll know that all internet connections are based on a specific technology called IPv6. This new technology is still in its early days, but it will eventually replace IPv4, which is the version of the internet protocol currently in use today.
To use IPv6, your smartphone needs to be able to use a technology called IPv6 tunneling, which is what cloud connexa allows. With IPv6 tunneling, you can connect to your home network and then connect to the internet through the Wi-Fi router that's part of your home network.
IPv6 is still in its early days, but it's likely that by 2025, every computer on the planet will be able to communicate with every other computer on the planet using IPv6. When the world has finally switched over to IPv6, the IPv4 protocol is expected to die out. That means that by 2025, the technology that powers the internet today is going to be obsolete.
How to connect to cloud connexa?
Question : I have a desktop that is connected to connexa cloud via a wireless router.
I cannot seem to figure out how to establish a wifi connection between my desktop and the connexa cloud. How do I go about this
Answer : Thanks Chris, I was looking through the various threads related to the connexa product and came across yours which explained things a bit better, so thank you for sharing. I have followed through with some of the advice in your post, namely by setting up the connexa cloud and enabling wifi on the connexa and my ubuntu desktop. This enabled me to connect using the connexa's ip address (192.168.25) but not the hostname (connexa-ubuntu). I can also access using their domain name, however, I would prefer the former option. I looked through the connexa-manager configuration to set a hostname and subnet for the connexa but couldnt find the right place, so thanks again for all your help.
Hello @Chris. Go to your connexa Cloud Manager & enter the details of the connexa cloud instance that you want to connect with. When prompted for an ip addy, use the same one that you are trying to connect to with your Ubuntu pc. Use port 443 for SSL. Select "Wifi" from the drop down list.
Next, enter the details for your wireless adapter. You will need to enter the network name, wireless SSID and the password. If it does not detect the network automatically, you will need to restart your router.
Now, select the port that you want to use for connexa. I used port 443 as it is the standard and most common to connect to SSL websites. The other options are 888 which is the standard TCP port for connexa's cloud, and 704 which is the standard TELNET port. Remember, you can only use 1 port at a time. If you can't connect, then re-configure the connexa and start again.
On the connexa cloud manager window, at the bottom right hand side, you should now be able to select the button "Connect". If you can click the Connect button, then we have successfully connected to your cloud.
