How do I add a VPN to my TP-Link router?

When you use a VPN on your router, it uses the internet connection of your computer, and also uses an IP address that can't be tracked by anybody.

As soon as you connect your computer to the VPN, the TP-Link router starts using the internet connection of your computer. When your computer is connected to the TP-Link router through a wired connection, the router automatically connects to the VPN. When your computer is connected to the TP-Link router via a Wi-Fi connection, it must be connected to the TP-Link router over a wireless network. Your router will assign an IP address for the Wi-Fi connection (called Private IP) that is not accessible to other devices on the local network. It does so to prevent your computer from accidentally connecting to a public IP address.

Note: Your router is in a public Wi-Fi hotspot, and your TP-Link router is plugged into your router. Note: If your TP-Link router is located behind a network address translation (NAT) device, it may need to be set up in advanced mode. To connect to the Internet and access your computer over a VPN, you must configure the router in advance.

In your TP-Link router's advanced settings, click the Network button on the left, click the More button, then click the Advanced Settings tab. Select the Private IP option from the Network Connections menu and click Set (see Figure 1). Figure 1. Figure 2 shows a TP-Link router that is configured to use the private IP setting. When your private IP is active, the router display a Private IP address when you connect to the router using a wired connection.

In the IP addresses box, enter the IP address assigned to the wired connection. The IP address must be a dynamic IP addressthat is, it must change. Use the private IP settings if your IP address is static. To view your private IP address, open a web browser on the computer that is connected to the router. On the Advanced IP settings page, open the Internet IP Setting list and select Internet IP address (see Figure 3).

How do I set up a VPN tunnel on my router? If you're using a TP-Link router, you need to download the latest firmware from TP-Link (see the table of contents below for links). TP-Link routers are pre-loaded with an old version of OpenVPN, which is unsuitable for encrypting your internet traffic. To install ExpressVPN on your TP-Link router, you'll need to update the firmware to version 4.0.x or later, which comes with OpenVPN 2.

Before you begin, make sure that your router has a stable internet connection. When you plug in an Ethernet cable to the router, you'll see a yellow light for a few seconds, followed by a blue light for longer. If your router cannot connect to the internet, it will display a message saying Unable to connect to the Internet. Check internet connection and try again. Or Unable to connect to the internet. Press cancel to return to configuration.

Plug in your router to your modem. Most router firmware versions will automatically detect the modem and start the ExpressVPN installation process. If your router is already installed, press the WiFi button on your TP-Link router until it asks you to update your router.

Select OpenVPN. You'll see the screen shown above. Find and select OpenVPN.

Choose ExpressVPN. Your router will now download the latest firmware. Once this process finishes, press the Start button on your TP-Link router, which will indicate that you've completed the initial setup.

Start VPN Tunneling. The TP-Link router will now ask you to connect to the ExpressVPN server. You can choose from the location nearest to you.

Select ExpressVPN. Once connected, you'll see the screen below.

How do I connect my ExpressVPN to my Xfinity router?

Step 1.

Log into your Xfinity Home device using your account credentials. Make sure to select Wireless & Home Security in the menu on the right side. Step 2. Open the ExpressVPN app for Android or iOS and you will see the connection information. Step 3. Select your Xfinity router's IP address, which should be in the range of 192.168.0.

The router may change if you are using the Xfinity remote control, but for most of us, this is a static number. Step 4. Select VPN Connect. If you receive an error, reset your modem and select Reset Modem. If that fails, reset your router. After the device resets, select Reset the router to restore the default settings.

Now, when you turn on your device, you can connect to the Internet on any device that can connect to the network at that address.
