Which day is Nigeria playing final?
Nigeria will take on Argentina on Thursday, June 26 at the Estadio Gran Parque de la Ciudad Deportiva de la Comunidad de Madrid, in Madrid, Spain.
The match is set to kick off at 3pm Nigerian time. Read below for the live match preview:
Group A. The group of death has a first tie today as Colombia host Japan. Colombia had a mixed 2025 campaign, but they can still have the advantage of playing an Asian opponent. They will be looking to score early and often to get the game off to a winning start. Colombia have a lot of speed, and if they can get into the box early, they could spring an early surprise on Japan. But don't expect a high scoring game here, it is all about trying to grind out a result. Japan will be more than happy to sit deep and soak up the pressure and come away with a win.
Colombia will be happy with their draw; though they will want to go to extra time and penalties, especially if Japan can keep up the pressure. Japan need a win to stay alive. They were already eliminated from the group after a 1-0 loss to Korea. They need to get the ball down and try to play passing football in order to create chances, and if they can do that, they should be able to get some sort of draw. The game will be low scoring again.
Prediction: 0-0, Japan win on PK. Uruguay will meet Brazil in the other fixture of Group Uruguay will be happy to reach the knock out stage for the first time in their history. They will hope to continue their good form against Brazil, who are the only team in the world who can make the most of Lionel Messi's absence. Atletico Madrid were able to create some problems for Uruguay at the Olympics and the way their attack works with Messi is something we have not seen before. They like to move the ball around at speed, and it will be interesting to see how Uruguay deal with that. They will also be pleased to get the chance to showcase a squad which was very unlucky in South America a couple of weeks ago.
It will be a test for Brazil; they cannot afford another performance like the one they had against Belgium.
Who is Nigeria playing after Angola?
This article was written by Erika Ekwurzel, an INCA fellow.
Follow her on Twitter @Ekwurzel Since 2025, Nigeria has played seven times against Angola. These matches are usually used for qualification to the Africa Cup of Nations, a tournament that only the country plays every four years.
For a side that is only one of 16 countries that qualify for this event, Nigeria has had to get creative to make sure that there are at least six matches in each round of the competition. With only a little bit of effort, some luck, and plenty of help from FIFA, Nigeria managed to have an extremely competitive group. But at least one of the teams Nigeria has faced in its home continent in this decade has had a different story than others: Angola.
Nigeria played Angola last year, and the results were a tie, a loss, a win, and two draws. The last two matches were drawn 1-1, in the same stadium, in Luanda.
The first draw was held back in 2025, in Kaduna, but Angola was disqualified due to having fielded an ineligible player. They did not return until 2025, when they won in Lagos. Since then, Nigeria has been able to hold it down, defeating Angola 2-0 in Abuja in 2025 and playing a draw in Uyo.
Despite having played so many matches against each other, no team had an advantage over the other in any of these games. This changed in 2025, when Nigeria and Angola met at the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Cairo. Nigeria managed to qualify and reached the semifinals, and Angola did the same. Nigeria defeated Angola by a 1-0 score, with John Mikel Obi scoring the goal.
The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations started off almost the same way. Nigeria beat Angola 2-0, in front of an international crowd, with goals from Ogenyi Okamcha and John Obi Mikel. Nigeria had another chance to get revenge, against Angola, in a friendly, in Malabo. It ended with a defeat.
It was clear that something strange had occurred to Nigeria's success against Angola. After they left the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Nigeria had scored five goals in two matches, outscoring Angola 4-2.
Who will Nigeria face in semi-final?
The day the World Cup final begins, we reveal our team of the tournament and reveal who will play in the last four. Bert Van Marwijk has selected a side featuring only one goalkeeper for the second semi-final, as Belgium will be looking to build on their shock win over Brazil in the opening game of the showpiece at the Etihad Stadium. But which players are the best in each position? Here's what we think. GOALKEEPERS. Vitally important for a team that plays a simple system, a good goalkeeper will be the difference between victory and defeat. The Dutchman knows this and has used the experience of Jasper Cillessen and his younger brother Thierry, along with the impressive Christian Koumpiainen, to create a strong, young unit. It means one or two of these keepers may have to make an appearance on the biggest stage in the world on Saturday.
Who's on top? Ben Foster (Manchester United), Kasper Schmeichel (Leicester). Ben Foster (Manchester United). The Premier League's leading goalkeeper is still the man to pick ahead of the World Cup final, with his cool, calm, composed performances keeping him just ahead of Leicester's keeper Kasper Schmeichel. With Belgium taking on Argentina on a small pitch, Foster will have to play against Lionel Messi, but he is more than capable of containing the Blaugrana's star-studded attacking line. He will need to be vigilant in preventing Argentina's lightning-quick forward Lionel Messi from playing darts into the heart of Belgium's backline.
