My brother is asking about what is the best antivirus software for him to use.

He is getting pretty annoyed with his current one, I think that it's called Comodo. It is like Symantec but not as good.

Basically he is saying he would like to have some options available and he thinks that Comodo is the best option. I know how to check the virus definition files and see how many are up to date but I am looking for some feedback from the community on this.

Does it have an active forum? How good is the support? Is it worth it to him to upgrade to Windows 7? For my brother and others like him, Windows 7 will be the only OS available. So I need to know whether it supports it or not so that I can recommend Comodo or not.

I would recommend Bitdefender and Kaspersky. I would recommend Kaspersky, because I like their free antivirus product a lot.

I use AVG Free since it was free for a lifetime (which is about 8 years now) and AVG got quite good at protecting me, but if you want to try out another free AV product, try using Avast Free. There are a few reasons why I think he would better off just upgrading his computer. One of them is that some of the newest versions of Windows do not allow you to remove the bootloader. He has a pretty old Windows XP computer but the bootloader is preventing it from running anything other than XP which is really annoying for him to have to deal with.

He also has a couple of applications that require Windows Vista and won't run under 7 or XP. He doesn't know how to get a legit copy of Vista but his computer can't run any other version than XP.

Another reason is that there are 2 versions of Internet Explorer 7 out there and he's not sure which one to use.
