Can I get SOCKS5 for free?

If you are reading this post, then you likely already know that a great number of browsers support "SOCKS5 proxies" for many common purposes.

In that case, why pay when I can get this for free? For example, here in my home network, I have a public static IP assigned for an older router that does not support dynamic DNS. I have to resort to a tunneled SOCKS5 proxy, which of course, means I need "free", or "low cost", client software and a SOCKS5-compatible (with authentication) web browser. I choose Firefox, it's free, and works with our existing connection.

So why pay to support free? Because there are also times when I need to set up connections which are not quite so simple, or where the cost is minimal but significant. For example: I need to connect to both our office network and a nearby community network, simultaneously. It would be really annoying to have to buy clients from two vendors and two installers for that one project, even if those prices are comparable. And they often are, because SOCKS5 connections are pretty reliable, don't they?

There's more than that, too. There are times when I run the business I'm in, where we get a large amount of internet traffic to other people's offices, with different policies and usage needs. I'd like to be able to make it as easy as possible to work around those policies, while ensuring it happens properly.

So, what is really the difference between paid and free? For the most part, just the name. With paid, it is generally much cheaper for the vendor to keep prices low, in order to drive customers to that vendor. With free, the vendor makes up any differences in cost by offering more services to people. Or, it can be offered for "free" in order to promote its own product(s). Sometimes, the services it provides for free are actually supported using paid services or resources, like our VPN solution

Free SOCKS5 solutions may not be as reliable as paid ones, like our commercial (but much less expensive) offerings.

Can I use SOCKS5 on Chrome?

I would like to know if it's possible to use SOCKS5 on Chrome.

I've noticed that the socks5 proxy in Chromium(the default browser for Ubuntu) works, but I cannot access any website through it. Is there any way to make it work?
I'm not trying to access any websites, just have an idea how they use it and thought it was a good idea to know if I could use it myself too. No, you can't use socks5 through Chrome. It is only supported through the Tor project, or other special proxy software. See for more details.

How do I install SOCKS5 on my PC?

Installing SOCKS5 on your computer.

Step 1 Download the newest version of the software from the official website, and once you complete that step make sure to update your virus and spyware definitions before you can begin with the process. Please note that any downloaded files are completely harmless so you need not worry about infections by them. The software will provide its functionality without installing much, if anything, to your computer.

Step 2. Click on the Install/setup.exe file.

Note: If you decide to manually install it to a custom location then you should also manually set a permission on the Program Files folder so that the install process is executed successfully. Once done, click on the Continue button to make sure that you have all the packages that you will use.

A window will show up. On the left click on the I accept the license agreements link. On the right select the version that you wish to apply. Choose the appropriate check box and click on the next button. It will take few moments for SocksEase to download and install the necessary package components on your system.

If your firewall doesn't allow the process to complete without further warnings to turn off your firewall, do so and it should work like a charm. Step 3. You can now check your internet connection settings for successful Socks5 installation by performing the following steps: Make sure that you are connected to the internet. It is usually possible to make those checks using Google or another commonly used search engine.

Open your internet browser and access a website in which you need an external site with an URL as mentioned in the instructions. You can open the default Firefox and Chrome but other browsers are fine too as they use an integrated SOCKS proxy with built-in protection against cyber attacks.

As the Socks5 proxy doesn't change the HTTP protocol, no additional software needs to be installed. But some security applications like anti-virus, internet security or even online backup applications require Socks5 proxy.
