How do I check if a DNS server is valid?

I have a DNS server that I want to validate. But I am not sure how to do this, since I don't want to run some scripts on it. I don't really care about the output of the script, I just want to know whether or not the DNS server is actually valid. Is there a way to do this in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS?google.com

How do I check active DNS?

Is there a command to see what DNS servers are active and which DNS server is used on a windows host?

I know you can do it on linux with dig, but that's not an option for me. If you have Windows 7, you can use the Command Prompt and type in the following command (from here): ping -t 4.2.1 > nul

If you have Windows Server 2025 R2, you can use the command-prompt and type in the following command (from here): net statistics wlan0. If you have Windows 8 or 8.1, you can use the following command: ipconfig /all > C:tempip.txt Then, open a text editor, such as Notepad, and paste the contents of the temp folder into the text file, and then open the file in Notepad.
