How do I talk to a live person at Sling TV?
I've had Sling TV for about a month now and just discovered it's not live, it's on demand.
Is there a way to chat with a live human being? When I call the number for support, they tell me they don't have my account information but I have to know my account information. What's going on here?
(For those of you not in the know, Sling TV allows you to watch some sports, shows, and movies for free, all through an internet connection. It is not a cable company. If you've read my Sling TV review, you can skip this one because it has very little to do with what Sling TV is. It's mostly about how to talk to a live human person, and why you should consider signing up. I tried talking to customer service who told me I need my account info. They won't give me that so I can get live games. What do I do?
They don't want your account info because the service is not active and therefore they don't have your info or anything to send you. You'll need to deactivate the service before they can give your account info. Just call them and say that you want to deactivate the service and they should be able to help you out. Good luck.
I thought this was just a paid-for service like a regular cable TV, so the question is how does one activate it? Why is it necessary to be activated on your own as if you had subscribed to it in the first place? As of right now, it sounds like Sling TV is just a pay-per-view service, or perhaps you can get it for free but you need to pay for the first month to keep using the service? Or am I missing something here? Sling TV will never become a traditional cable company. It's not a physical cable company, it's a virtual one. That means that you're not paying for any cable TV directly. Instead, you pay a monthly fee that's given to you based on how much you're willing to pay for "the whole package" of content that Sling TV offers.

Our team of specialists use the same methods as all internet users to ensure a good internet connection. A high-speed connection is vital to us but other things can cause interruption, such as large files or video playing over Skype which uses a fair bit of bandwidth. It is always better to get to your destination using the quickest method if you can. If you are experiencing problems, please remember to check your internet connection and try restarting your internet browser. In rare cases, a full router reboot may be required.
There are certain points during the installation that require a restart, please do not attempt to continue installing until instructed otherwise. If you are unsure of how your wireless router operates, we recommend that you use a network security application before using Sling. This will ensure that your wireless connection can only be accessed via authorised means. You may download or buy your choice of security application from the web. We also strongly advise you do not run any kind of root kit software at the same time as Sling unless your router manufacturer specifically recommends this type of application be installed. The more you take advantage of having an integrated network security application, the fewer problems you will encounter using Sling.
As new settings are required for your configuration of Sling you may need to restart the devices. To restart: Restarting your equipment can help restore Internet access. Restarting your router requires connecting its power cable.
How do I report a problem with Sling?
In the last week, we've received several emails with problems with Sling.
It's not uncommon, but since the new version is live and out in the wild, we want to make sure you know how to report problems you experience with Sling.
If you are experiencing a problem that is not covered here, please use this link to email us with your issue. What is Sling? Sling is the official open source implementation of RTMP streaming media in Apache httpd and Tomcat. How to install. If you have not installed it already, you can download Sling from the main Apache Tomcat website. You will also find a tarball of the sources available for download. Extracting the archive will create the libs directory.
Installing the Sling software requires you to have an existing Apache/Tomcat installation. It is intended to be installed into /usr/local/apache-tomcat-5.28 or /usr/local/apache-tomcat-5.27.
How to run the Sling web server. After unzipping the tarball, you should have the following directories available: libs (this contains the jar files). Sling.war sling.db Once the directory structure has been created, you can use the apachectl command to start the Sling web server./start-sling.sh
The start-sling.sh script starts the Sling web server. If you receive errors at this point, check that the system is able to run the Apache/Tomcat installation./stop-sling.sh
You should receive a message similar to: Starting Sling server. Once the Sling web server is started, you can access the Sling management console at If you are running on a Linux system, the console will be accessible through a browser using your system's IP address or localhost.
Is Sling TV having problems?
It's not surprising in our post-Dish/Tivo era, when everything is moving faster than the speed of light.
You want to subscribe to Sling TV and it requires multiple sign-up steps to do so. If you are just getting to the web page that makes your life miserable as a streamer, then check out this simple fix!
I have a number of Sling TV accounts (one for the wife and one for my kids), but none of them work properly if you want to stream from anywhere but your own home Wi-Fi.e. (And, no, I haven't forgotten the password on my account.)
The problem started when we wanted to add a third remote control in the house. My parents have moved in the basement, so I decided that the easiest way to get my home entertainment center hooked up to the internet was to give myself a Roku 3 box and SlingTV for my remote. A Roku 3 and Sling TV has been a pleasant combination for our living room (I was already paying for Netflix anyway).
The trouble, as we found out today, is that if you want to switch on a new remote or use the DVR, you need to click a button that takes you out of Sling TV, in order to find the new remote or the DVR. You have to know that the new remote has been activated and where it is or else the DVR won't show up. Sometimes there's no warning at all; Sling TV goes white-screen then throws me back to the main menu.
But this isn't an Sling issue, it's a Roku issue. The Roku should, by now, be good about having a user-friendly user interface and keeping everything in one place, and I get that in my Roku3 box, there's a channel hub (what they call their channel search tool). But the same thing doesn't seem to be happening in Sling TV's channel hub. I know exactly what the channel options are on my Roku (I have the best deal at the moment, a box with antenna to catch the local CBS and NBC) and I know that the Sling channels are set up so that you get an EPG when you start Sling.
