How do I get a US proxy?
I am a college student at the University of Delaware in Newark, DE.
It's quite expensive to do all my classes online. But when I got to my final class and had to have my course information sent to me, it showed up as an email from a proxy server rather than a "real" email from my ISP. I tried to add my university as a proxy, but couldn't. I also can't find any option that let's me choose between the options. My school is Delaware Technical Community College and the proxy is called "DELnet". I googled this, but there is no help on what a "proxy" is and how I get it. Any help would be appreciated.
A proxy is a service provider where you can request someone else to forward your connection. This is needed for connecting to places like the internet, without knowing how to set up a proxy yourself. The reason you are not able to get your proxy from your university is because your university is not a proxy. If you do not know how to set up a proxy then you can contact their network engineers to help you.
If it doesn't work for DCC, that probably means that it can't be done either. You probably will need to talk to your university.
My school has a "Proxy Setup" web page with a link to our proxy, however after clicking on that link I only get to a "Proxy Setup Complete" page. Is there anything I can do now? Thank you for your reply, youre right. I never saw this page before. If I wanted a proxy, this is the page I should have gone to, instead of going to the main DCC website.
If I did what you said, would there be some way I could go to their site now? "Delaware Tech Community College (DCC) is the largest of Delaware's four public colleges, serving students at 16 campuses around the state." I understand. However I was told there were no options to choose from. Is there anything I can do now, or did the proxy just become useless to me now?
"What you might have is the "DELnet Proxy," which can be enabled on a particular web site by sending email to a list. They will respond with instructions on how to enable it.
How can I get a US IP address without a VPN?
Your question is kind of broad and unclear, but I'll try to answer anyway.
The easiest way to get a US IP address is to go to a site like isunblocker.com or ipcheck.net and see which country the site is in.
If you're in the US, you can go to a site like whatismyip.com and get a US IP address.
If you want to be in another country and have a US IP address, you'll need a VPN (Virtual Private Network) to change your IP address to a US IP address. Some VPN services include a free trial (which you cancel at any time). They all work by changing your IP address. You then connect to the VPN from your computer or smartphone.
Are there any free proxy?
There are actually lots of free proxy, but none of them are reliable. This is because you can't trust other people's code. But I don't want to pay for proxy provider. In this case, are there any free proxy? If there is, what is their pros and cons?
Thanks for your answer! You need to make some assumptions here. Let's assume: you're only worried about blocking at the OSI stack (TCP, HTTP, DNS). You don't want to use anything that requires an account or login, like SSH. You don't want a third-party service but a tool designed and built by someone else, like the Tor Project. If these three things are true, then it makes sense to start with a free service like Tor Browser Bundle or Firefox as your browser and proxy, but keep in mind that these projects do not work together directly; they act separately, and there is no direct communication between them. However, this isn't the only tool out there. There are quite a few different tools for doing this; I've compiled a list of some of the more popular ones.
OpenWRT (based on Tomato and OpenBSD) has a simple web interface. Fiddler2/WinInet works on Windows. Not sure if it works on Linux or not HTTPS Everywhere browser extension. Socksification (or Socksifier) a Perl script. Siege a command-line utility. Most of these are pretty simple, and they aren't too hard to install on Linux if you just want to tinker around and see how the proxy works.
