The only thing that will change is a few new shows will debut (a season-ending wrap-up by a certain favorite son). But it isn't a time for big plans or for major life changes. And for all the shows ending, not that many are coming back in the fall. You're still thinking about how happy you were with the shows you renewed and the new ones you can't wait to see. And maybe a few more shows, the ones that got cancelled because the showrunners went home and they had no new ideas to offer, or a little bit of network meddling.

I remember seeing on the news that there was a large number of renewals/cancellations today, but I don't remember any of the shows or what the totals were. Does anybody know this, or even a good source? It would be helpful for knowing what we should start saving money for now.

In other news, "NCIS Los Angeles" beat "NCIS" in the ratings for the first time. Last season's cancellation was "Criminal Minds." In this last season they introduced new characters into the show, with mostly bad effects. Their numbers have slipped since then, while "Criminal Minds" has remained fairly popular. I think it has become somewhat stale, the cast having all gotten the same jobs and been in everything, leaving very little left to be impressed by. Plus, the premise of the show is starting to get repetitive, with theme of people in law enforcement who feel like they're "special" because they work at a major law enforcement agency becoming cliches. I was not surprised when the network opted not to renew it.

"NCIS: L." had lost steam by last year. "The Mentalist" has been more popular than either series.

It seems that the networks are being pretty careful about whether they renew shows, or if they keep cancelling them, with some obvious standouts (Mad Men, The Good Wife, NCIS, etc.) and some less obvious ones (Castle, Hawaii Five-0).
