Is Orfox still available?

I am searching for a complete replacement of Windows 8.1 in my MacBook Air and all the reviews I have seen recommend Orfox, but I can't find it any more. Is it still available? Thanks!

I searched on Google for "orfox" and the first link I got was to the Wikipedia entry. And on Wikipedia there is an update in the first paragraph: In February 2023, a fork of the project was started by Richard Ding, under the name "Orfox", which is no longer being developed. Also it seems that the last commit was in November 2023. So Orfox is no longer being developed.

The only remaining possibility would be "Firefox" which is a well-known brand name.

Is Orfox and Tor same?

I have been using orfox for about a month now and am quite impressed with it. I use it as my main browser and have no complaints about its speed or user experience. It is however my understanding that Orfox and Tor are the same thing, right? That is to say, I don't need to use Tor Browser, and I don't need to download and install Orfox. So if I want to use Tor, I should be able to use Orfox. Is this correct?

There's an FAQ on the site for this: Does Tor Browser support WebExtensions? Orfox supports WebExtensions, including all the WebExtensions extensions available in Tor Browser. Tor Browser supports WebExtensions, but does not yet support the whole suite of WebExtension features. We have been working on getting full support for WebExtensions, and this should be available in a few months.

So if you install the Firefox browser and only use Tor Browser you will not be using Orfox.

What happened to Orfox?

Orfox's original vision was to have a more open and simple to use web browser. A very simplified approach to web browsing, with less features, which is built for speed, simplicity, performance and privacy. Orfox was initially based on the Firefox fork NetSurf, but later on it became a completely independent project. Orfox is still under active development, and can be found on GitHub.
