How to set static IP for mobile hotspot?

We are planning to do a small project using mobile hotspot of some mobile phone.

I am facing problem to find solution for setting static IP. As I know, all the connection for mobile hotspot will be on wifi network, so I need to set static IP address for that hotspot. What settings should I need to change for this?

Also, I would like to find out if static IP is possible? Or does android automatically assign the static IP address as DHCP address? How can I find out what IP address it gives me? 3 Answers.

I have an Asus Transformer T300P that I use as a hotspot for my 2 mobile devices.

Everything works fine, but the problem is that the IP address changes every time I connect or disconnect the USB to the laptop.

I would like to change IP address of a user's mobile phone.

The main reason is to track the user at their home, so I want to give them an IP address which can't be identified. There is a lot of solutions to find out the IP address of your mobile, even on a rooted device and they all work well, but my concern is that how secure is it? There are many options for this (for example ifconfig/route) but are any of them secure to use? Couldn't someone use them to hack into my network? Is there some other way to do this (not via system settings)?

If you're using a mobile network, then there's nothing to prevent you from using ifconfig or anything else on your machine. It won't be particularly useful to you, as the device will be going over a mobile connection. If you were using a VPN, that could be a possibility.
