How many live-action Disney Princess remakes are there?
In my last post, I discussed the number of live-action Disney Princess films and television shows that are currently in production, or in development.
In this post, I'm going to look at the number of different princesses that have been represented in these live-action projects, as well as the number of movies and shows that have been produced in the franchise.
Live-Action Disney Princesses: Films. The first Disney Princess live-action film was Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937. In the years since then, there have been several more Disney Princess live-action films, and some television shows and video games. The following table lists every Disney Princess live-action film, television show and video game from 1937-present.
Live-Action Disney Princesses: Television Shows. In addition to films, Disney Princess characters have also appeared in several television series. For the purposes of this post, I'm going to include any series in which the characters are represented in the main title sequence (or an episode or episode logo) and/or appear on-screen. I'm not including animated series or shows that are not based on a Disney Princess story.
Sleeping Beauty (1959-1963). This live-action television show, which was made for CBS, is best known for introducing the character of Cinderella. It is not listed here because it is not a Disney Princess show, but rather a remake of a 1940 film.
Sailor Moon (1992-1995). This anime series was made for NBC and aired on The Family Channel. Like Sleeping Beauty, it is not a Disney Princess show.
The Suite Life of Zack and Cody (2006-2008). This live-action Disney Junior show is about two young brothers who move to a beach town where they are magically transported to a suite-style hotel. The show has no connection to a Disney Princess story.
Live-Action Disney Princesses: Video Games. Video games have also been released that feature Disney Princess characters. I'm not counting the Disney Princess video game line because it was not exclusively Disney Princess-themed. However, there are also a number of video games that are set in the Disney Princess universe, or contain Disney Princess characters. The following table lists all video games featuring Disney Princess characters.
