Is NordVPN worth it for streaming?
Is it worthwhile?
Can it be a viable option if you use a VPN regularly? We're happy to give you the answers.
Why a Netflix-like service would be good. I'm happy with NordVPN. When it comes to VPNs, I've found that most providers' offerings do little more than provide a cloak of privacy for their subscribers. While it's certainly good to have the ability to mask one's identity, I've always felt that those who take full advantage of this benefit will end up using their VPN to watch things that they wouldn't normally watch without a VPN. This is because they need it as much for protecting their device as for their own comfort, and in my experience, having a VPN provider also has a handy filter function that lets you select what you want to block.
For me, these options are much more interesting than just providing a blanket shroud of internet anonymity, since it means that I can actually watch videos that I would normally never get away with watching. I can still watch whatever I want, but now when I watch certain shows, if they are available on Netflix UK, my ISP won't be able to tell I'm watching them, while if I watched the same thing at my laptop, it would appear that I was doing so unencrypted.
This idea could obviously go terribly wrong in many ways, so we'll explore all of that in greater detail. The main issue here is that a VPN-like service like Netflix is actually very similar to watching films/shows on your computer: the ISPs won't see that you're accessing it at all unless you do so unencrypted, and even then, they can't easily tell which content you're watching. If, on the other hand, you use a VPN to encrypt all of the traffic going in and out of your PC or mobile phone, and the ISP that's connected to you doesn't see the content at all, they don't know whether you've legitimately accessed the content or not. If the only reason they knew you'd accessed it was that it appeared in their system at the same time, they're none the wiser.
