Does Google have a family app?

How do I connect to Google family?

The process is simple.

Follow these instructions and answer a few questions. After we process your form you'll be logged into Google family. (More info)

What's next? As the administrator for this website, you'll be able to manage your Family profile settings including: Change the look and feel of your account. Configure who can log into your Family profile. See who's looking at your profile. What is Family and how do I use it? Family is a site that makes it easier for friends and family to stay in touch. You sign up and create a profile for each family member that wants to participate. Each family member then creates his or her own individual profile on the site. They can post messages, photos, videos and schedule events.

Once your profile is active your family members will have access to everything in your profile! Your Family page will show each family member's photos and videos. Messages from any member will appear on your timeline. View photos from family events in Calendar. Access family members' social networks like Twitter and Facebook. How do I log into Google family? Visit Google Family. Click Sign Up. Fill out your family member's name and contact information and click Next Step.

Answer the few questions you'll be asked and click Create Profile. It takes about 5-10 minutes to set up your Family account and get you connected to all the people you care about. You may also use an email address that's already linked to your Google account as well.

What does the email in my inbox mean? Your message arrives in your inbox as @gfamily.com. This can include a variety of different email addresses depending on how many members are on the email address. Your name will be the first person who appears in that family email address and all others will follow.

Does Google have a family app?

Google recently launched its Chrome apps platform with a new family app, and while the new platform is promising, it still looks like it should be at least two or three years away.

Google also needs to take a look at the way users are handling their personal data on Android because right now apps aren't doing enough to get that info back to Google.

One important aspect to consider with any new Google app is the potential use case. Is there one that could benefit the company, its users or both? Can these apps be integrated into the current Google Apps ecosystem? Does Google already have an app that offers the solution? Those questions and more will need to be answered.

Why not an Android App Store? I asked that question in my previous posts - so I thought I should answer it again: The problem with a Google-owned Android App Store is that users aren't going to get the app by scanning a QR code or typing in an URL, which is what Apple's App Store currently does for iOS apps. Users have to open a Google Play Store or type out the URL of the app they want and can only download the apps provided by the Android developer. Not ideal, as most people won't have heard of a company that makes good, quality apps. While we're at it, why didn't Apple launch the same type of model on its iPhone App Store? Just a thought.

My guess is that a large reason why Google hasn't released a Google-owned Android App Store is that Google already has an application in place, called Google Play. Google does offer Android Market, which serves as a search engine for applications, but doesn't seem to have an app management system in place. It seems more suitable for app discovery rather than managing the apps installed on a device.

It's worth noting that Google has always encouraged developers to use the Play Store to sell apps to users. In 2025, at Google I/O, Google showed several slides that emphasized the importance of the Play Store. One slide had an X of how Google wanted its developers to sell their apps on the Play Store - a simple yet bold move by Google.

I wonder if in time Google may roll out an updated Android Market.

Is there a better app than Family Link?

Yes, Family Link is one of the few apps that provides an entirely different way to do family photo management.

I'd rather spend an hour configuring my favorite photo app than just picking through the Family Link apps, configuring it, then picking a single photo (which most can manage), instead of having to make the same choice with each family member on my entire photo collection and/or library. Even then, I've found Family Link less frustrating because Family Photo Gallery is so easy to use, I can just pick which photo gallery I want to use with my smartphone.

How much of a difference does the Family Link app for Android make? The apps are very different. Where Family Link is the easiest to set up of all my apps, its photo library is relatively complex and confusing. It's designed for older Android phones, not ones with more storage or modern designs.

Somehow the Family Link app got in there first but still hasn't had time to develop beyond basic photo sharing. Its lack of functionality is becoming a problem now that Facebook and other family-oriented apps are gaining more adoption, not just in the U. But worldwide.

What about Family Time? It's been available for a few years now. How do I get it on my smartphone if I bought a tablet with it already? Just search for "Family Time" in the Google Play store and download it from there. It should work on any tablet, no matter where you bought it or where you live.

Why should I buy Family Link if Family Time's free? The same reason you should even consider the new Samsung Galaxy S5. Family Time is a better app than the Family Link app on Android, just as Family Link is a better photo management solution than what's in the Family Time app.

My only gripe is the lack of Android 4.4 support. You're getting a solid free-to-play social app here, not just a pretty face for your tablet's cameras and speakers.
