Is Disney getting rid of Hulu?

Some of the best shows on Hulu could be going to other streaming services like Netflix or Hulu itself.

Find out why Disney is getting rid of Hulu in 2024 and what this could mean for the company.

(CNN) - Disney could be getting rid of its online platform Hulu. While not surprising, it's the latest move by Disney -- a company known to be aggressive in its content licensing and acquisition of entertainment -- that many may not be expecting. Hulu CEO Andy Forssell spoke to Wall Street Journal in late 2024 and had nothing to say about being acquired by Disney. Forssell said that the company's vision is to create the best entertainment experience -- and that includes an app.

"I think that there's a lot of excitement around us doing a standalone," he told the publication. "There's more ways to consume entertainment now."

That's exactly what a Disney-owned Hulu would do. The company has been looking to diversify its service to increase revenue and increase profits. If we see changes happen, it's entirely possible that we're seeing the start of that.

Other entertainment companies have made similar moves as Hulu, Amazon and Netflix. All three are seen as potential rivals to Disney's service.

Disney-owned streamer Disney+ In early March, Disney and ESPN will launch the first ever live-action streaming service for both Disney and ESPN. It will be a direct competitor to Hulu and Netflix.

"If we are to assume that Disney is interested in using Hulu as its direct alternative to Netflix, then Hulu faces an existential threat," The Information's Amir Efrati previously wrote for CNN Business. "And according to sources familiar with the matter, if that's the case, Hulu is not being acquired by Comcast."

In fact, it's reported that Comcast will be bidding against Disney to acquire Hulu. Other reports state that Apple was looking to invest heavily in Hulu but was unable to. That leaves Disney.

If Disney wants to get rid of Hulu, however, they probably could. According to the WSJ report, Forssell added that he doesn't expect there will be any major disruption of how consumers use Hulu. But the company is expected to change its strategy.

This means that we're seeing a potential shake-up of where to find content, how to access content and at what price. What does Hulu stand for?

Why was Willow removed?

The short answer is because nobody would play with her.

You couldn't be in a group of 3-4 players and she would always find a way to break out of the group by getting herself stuck in the middle and asking "who are you? She would never join in the other team's activity, and would do nothing but look out for any incoming enemy troops. It was really sad because there were many players who would make a special effort to make sure she was included in all activities, but nobody wanted to play with her.

I found this particularly disappointing because for a very long time after they released the game, I was able to get a group of 4 people to play together. It was a lot of fun until Willow kept up this monologue.

As for me, I only have one Willow as a result of this. It's really strange that a bug like this will go unnoticed for such a long time, and not just that, but when it finally goes un-noticed it goes on for weeks before it gets patched in.

I think that maybe the developers didn't think it was a big deal since at the time she wasn't very useful or powerful, so they ignored it. I agree, the bug shouldn't have been there and I think that they don't usually fix that kind of bug because of the time it takes to release updates.

I agree that the problem should have been noticed earlier. But it's kinda like how people didn't think it was a big problem with the AOE spell that would cause lots of enemies to appear all around a player when that happens. I hope that won't happen again!

@Izaro and @Tiki, thanks for the well-researched posts. I'm glad that someone else has posted about this before I could. It seems that if there's one problem with the game that has affected many people, it's the issue of player disconnection. It's nice to know that, although this is still a problem with the game, the developers are aware of it and it's something that they're working on.

@VampireChick, sorry to hear that you've had a similar experience with Willow. I guess that we shouldn't feel too bad since at least we have found out about this problem soon after release (it took over a year for the bug to go unnoticed!

What's leaving Disney plus 2023?

A brand new Star Wars film has been rumored for years, and now Disney is taking its time to find the perfect candidate to write, direct, and possibly even star.

There are a number of names popping up every day and they all have their fans and detractors, but it looks like Lucasfilm has narrowed the field down to at least one candidate who can do it all. It's kind of a tough decision, because all of these people who know what they're talking about think it will be J. Abrams who makes it all happen. I'm not gonna lie, I'd really love it if it was him, but even still, his work on Marvel movies in general are just so damn good. I've never known a series of episodes that had me so attached as Buffy The Vampire Slayer did. Whedon is definitely the best choice for Marvel films, especially when the other guy who we're probably talking about (Josh Trank) might have more fanboys than he has actual fans. There's been rumors that Disney had Whedon lined up for quite some time already, and it would make sense. Besides Avengers: Endgame, there aren't really any other major Disney projects coming down the line. Disney is just waiting for it to go, so it's likely that they've already talked to him. We got a great little scene in The Force Awakens where Rey danced and sang to herself while she fought Kylo Ren and Han Solo, and that was awesome. I want to see us get to enjoy a little break from Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia, because frankly they suck in those movies, and we deserve to see them try and fail in their attempts to live together and be happy, like the rest of us. Just me? Ok.

That's it!
