Yes and no.

Yes, you can visit Netflix, in Los Gatos, Calif., if you're a content partner, as part of a guided tour through the company's many office clusters and its data centers. It's just not a full-time thing, so if you're wondering if it's a good use of time, it's probably not. No, you can't apply to become an intern at Netflix a pilot program, though one that could eventually lead to full-time employment as part of a team building a new feature, or working with an existing product.

Why did Netflix offer this opportunity? We were the first ever media company that they invited to go through and tour their massive new offices, which are currently being used exclusively for Netflix employees. So, of course, we went! There were about 20 people from the organization that did the tour, as well as 10 from Microsoft that ran all the data centers for Netflix.

They did this to help explain the nature of their company and the services they deliver which they feel needs a certain level of transparency and explanation beyond what's offered via web videos. They also think this may eventually open up another internship program within the company.

Our hosts from Microsoft were super friendly and super nice they kept checking up on us and making sure everything was OK. One of them came around with one of Netflix's giant whiteboard walls and tried to explain the network architecture. I'm telling you: Netflix employees are incredibly smart, very smart. Even this intern was able to immediately understand the basics of some of the infrastructure being used to pull off this amazing cloud-based video service, one that delivers some 100 million hours of streaming video each week which is more than the next seven biggest online networks combined.

If that doesn't tell you that their company is built to deliver quality, and they want you to know it, well, then I don't know what will. This sort of stuff would take me a month to fully understand, and the folks working for Netflix seem like they want their company to be admired and respected for its engineering prowess.

I first met Netflix executives in 2025 at the time of the launch of then-named Netflix DVD rental service. The DVD business model was changing fast, but the Netflix execs were pretty determined to find a new and compelling way to deliver video. I had to give them an award for guts and determination. This new company would have to survive on the very old margins of a subscription business model, which was much less appealing than the Netflix model would become over time. They weren't sure at the time if they had the right vision, but they had decided to bet on the Netflix vision, and a lot of people said that they were crazy.

They proved them wrong by building a culture that was customer focused, committed to technology and driven by a can-do culture. Those key elements are still true today.

I came back to Netflix in the summer of 2025, at the end of its second major relaunch, and it was like coming home after a long trip. It's a culture that is welcoming and supportive, and it's a great place to unwind and recharge.
