What is the downside of Hulu Live TV?
Still, with the options available for streaming entertainment, it's hard to say that live TV will ever be as good as streaming alone.
For instance, Netflix has no DVR and offers hundreds of original series. Plus, you can watch almost anywhere: a plane, a car, a boat, or even an aquarium (via an Android or iPhone app). Hulu is more of an all-in-one package. You get the Hulu streaming service, Hulu Plus, and Hulu Live TV. Live TV only offers traditional TV channels, but at least it's cheaper than other traditional cable alternatives. Just know what you're getting into.
We used the latest version of each TV's remote to log on to each service and test its menus and features. Our TV sets were updated to the newest version of the latest Roku OS. However, neither TV's remote works with some Roku apps, like Hulu's. (Hulu's official Roku channel has an issue that's still being worked out.) Both remote and apps supported Netflix and Amazon Fire TV.
In some cases, we installed Hulu's own channel to the TV, as well as the Roku TV's app, using the channel button and TV's remote, respectively. We set Hulu's channel to the "All" view and used the remote to scroll through and sort channels, rather than search. Hulu's channel is a better option, because it doesn't require a login. And because it's a live TV stream, Hulu's channel has full access to the same content, even when you've logged in or not.
