How do you keep headings at the top of the page in Google Docs?

How to get headings to show up in navigation pane Google Docs?

I'm a huge fan of Google Docs, but I hate that it's the only web application I have trouble with headings in the side navigation.

It has never failed to recognize them when I've typed them into the text box, but they never show up on my page. Anyone know how to do this? I have the latest update, I haven't been messing with settings at all. Thanks!

I got the same problem when I updated to the last update. I have had to add a second line in my headings to get them to work.

Example: My example was for a list of words (Heading 1). List my words here: Heading 1. Heading 2. Heading 3. Heading 4. So I did: You may want to give the headings more or less spacing depending on how much space you want between them.

How do I add a section to a table of contents in Google Docs?

I want to add a section to a table of contents in Google Docs.

I have no problem with the contents themselves (with pictures, and everything) but I can't figure out how to add a section to the table of contents.

The only information I found is on this page: It says I have to use the Insert menu item, but that does nothing. How do I add a section to a table of contents? If you're using the free version of Google Docs, then you're limited to inserting text into the TOC only. If you're using the paid version, then you can insert pictures, diagrams, and all kinds of other things.

To add a sub-heading to the TOC, you'll need to go to the edit tab of your table of contents and click "Add a sub-heading". I just tried it, and it worked. But you can't do it for tables, or lists, or whatever else, only sub-headings.
