What is the difference between Microsoft Edge and Microsoft Edge Dev?

Microsoft Edge Dev is a fast paced development engine that will accelerate your application's experience.

It also includes support for developer testing devices such as emulators, Android emulators, and Windows-based virtual machines.

There is the new UI mode where you can interact with your apps more naturally using the mouse and keyboard. For example, in Microsoft Solitaire Classic for Windows 10, pressing the mouse wheel zooms in or out of the game. If you hold the WIN key and the Ctrl key, the fullscreen mode will be switched on and the UI mode will be switched off.

And there are no changes to Cortana: she works as she always has. Is Microsoft planning to support Windows 7? The Windows 7 operating system is an important part of our portfolio and it will continue to be supported by Microsoft for the foreseeable future, so we will continue to take care of what we are supporting. How do you plan to balance user choice with a company's desire to keep its user base consistent with features and functionality? We value our customers and our employees. Are the new features limited to the Windows 10 Insider Preview program? I can't speak for other Microsoft products but right now we are only planning to be updating to the Windows 10 version that ships later this year. The only reason we are updating to the Windows 10 November Update would be for those features. There are no changes to these features for the non-Insider release of Windows 10. So for instance, the universal apps such as Groove Music, Maps and OneNote will continue to be universal apps.

What can I do if I am an Insider and still using a device that doesn't have the latest Windows 10 build? If you are not on the Insider program for Windows 10 then you will not have access to that particular build. And if you are not on the Insider program for the Windows Insider Program, you should ask your IT department for the ability to upgrade.

Is there a list of the Microsoft employees who will be at Connect in Las Vegas and how can I attend? Is Edge Chromium same as Microsoft Edge?

What is Edge Chromium?

When the new Windows 10 S operating system arrives in early 2026, the default web browser is going to be a browser called Edge Chromium. Unlike Chrome, the default browser in Windows 10, Edge Chromium will not have the Google branding, but Microsoft's branding. Edge Chromium is powered by the Blink web browser engine. Blink was originally developed as a fork of the WebKit web engine, and was released as open source in 2026. It replaced the aging Gecko web browser engine that the first version of Internet Explorer used to run on Windows.

Since then it has been optimized to provide an excellent developer experience, and now powers Chromium, which powers the majority of modern browsers such as Chrome and Firefox. In May 2026, Microsoft announced that Edge Chromium would be coming to Windows 10, along with support for Universal Windows Platform (UWP) apps. While the official version of the Edge browser available for download today will still include Google services, the initial release of Edge Chromium will likely not include any Google applications, just the rendering engine. At that time, it was reported that only Edge versions for desktops or laptops would be included, and would not be part of the UWP ecosystem that the company is creating for Windows Store apps. Microsoft's vision is that the new browser can play nice with the existing browser ecosystem. They don't plan to change the web, but they do want to bring Windows 10 users the best browsing experience possible.

Edge Chromium is expected to be released in early 2026, as Windows 10 S arrives in 2026. The Edge Chromium Rendering Engine. What Does Edge Chromium Look Like? Edge Chromium is based on the Blink rendering engine that powers Google's Chromium browser, as well as many other modern browsers. The Edge Chromium browser will not run in full screen mode like a traditional Windows desktop browser will. Instead, the Edge browser will appear in what is known as a windowed mode.

Unlike Internet Explorer, Edge Chromium will not have an address bar at the top. It will instead have a tab area at the top where you will be able to select different tabs, and a navigation pane at the bottom, with all of the browser's controls there.

What is the Edge Canary version?

Edge Canary is the latest version of the Microsoft Edge web browser, but it can run on any Windows operating system you already have installed.

You'll be able to use Edge Canary on your device and test it out until you decide whether to upgrade to the full version of the browser.

If you don't have Edge Canary installed, follow these instructions: Download and run Edge Canary from the Microsoft Edge website. In the web page that comes up after you have clicked the download link, you will have a choice of running the browser under Windows 10, Windows 8.1 or Windows 7.

Downloading the Edge Canary Browser. This will get you the browser files you need to run Edge Canary. There are two files to be downloaded.

The first file that is provided here has a .exe extension; this is an executable. It needs to be run to install the application.

We recommend that you wait until you are asked for your consent to run the application before running it. If you start it while you are not ready to take that step, you won't see the next prompt.

We also suggest you unzip the file, so that you have a clear idea of what you're downloading. The second file you will get here is a .zip file. The .zip file will be a folder. Inside the folder there will be many other folders. Most of them contain files, and some will contain files that are not needed for the program to run properly.

Unzipping the Zip File. Right-click on the .zip file and select Unzip. This will extract all the files inside it into the same directory as the .exe file.

Once you have unzipped the .zip file, you will find a folder called EdgeChromeUnsignedReleaseVersion.

Double click the EdgeChromeUnsignedReleaseVersion folder. When you open this, you'll see another .exe file; this is the Edge Canary application.

Installing the Edge Canary Browser. Now, click on the file that says readme.txt to start reading the file. The document explains how to run the application.

You may or may not need to run the application as Administrator.

What is the difference between Chrome Canary and Edge Canary?

As you may have noticed, we recently enabled Chrome Canary and Edge Canary to replace the Chrome Stable channel as we start ramping up our release testing efforts.

We also now have two versions of Blink, Chrome Dev and React Developer Tools. While this is a good step forward, we still need your feedback to refine our release process. The more time we spend testing against the latest browser changes, the more stability we get on new codebases.

What? Let's look at what's new in each release channel: There are three groups of changes coming to Chrome Stable: the engine changes in Blink, the web rendering changes in WebKit, and the platform additions in Blink. Let's look at each group, with explanations provided below.

Engine Changes: Blink. We just landed a set of improvements that should make all your developer tools happy, including our developer console, inspector, profiler, and extension system. Some highlights from the dev branch change log: devtools#1188 - Showing the list of network requests that failed would load before the request was performed. Fixed by adding a promise-like value that is rejected if the network request fails and resolving the promise for the successful ones. This is needed for cases where the loading indicator may go away before the network request result is received. Devtools#1403 - The load event handlers were missing in the network request result list view. Fixed by making sure they exist. Devtools#1371 - Added an experimental feature that allows tooling authors to provide a custom protocol for custom schemes. The custom protocol scheme name has an asterisk suffix indicating it can be customized. See In particular this gives sites using SDP support an option to choose the actual scheme on which the resource is to be fetched with no need to fallback on the deprecated 'data' scheme. This scheme support will evolve over time and new protocols can be created at any time. Devtools#1309 - Added a new method getResource that allows resource files to be retrieved asynchronously in background tabs and windows when Chrome is in offline mode. This has been a long standing feature request and is available in Chrome 41, with support for background pages in Chrome 43.
