How to configure a VPN client?

My company has a VPN server that I use on a laptop to connect to the internal network.

This server uses StrongSwan, which works well. It provides OpenVPN, but I don't want to use it because it is not free. I use the StrongSwan client to connect to the VPN server and then to the internet via the VPN tunnel. The network is a 10G ethernet and the laptop has the latest Intel Dual-Core CPU. There is only 1 GB of RAM installed in the laptop.

This configuration works well and is not a problem. I used it last year for my home network.

The thing is that my ISP provides a static IP. At this moment I have a different IP at home (static) and at work (Dynamic). So, I need to configure the VPN client at home to use my home IP. To do that I have to change the network configuration of the VPN client. I cannot change it using the CLI. I have read that I need to change the DNS settings or the IP address of the VPN server (it is the default server provided by StrongSwan) and I have to also modify the routes table to route my IP from my ISP to my home network. I need to change all this information, but it seems to me that the VPN client would be very complex to configure and difficult to use.

How do I configure the VPN client to use my home IP? Is there a simple way to do that? Do I have to use some software and how do I use it? It is my first time using a VPN client. I was not able to find the way to configure the client with my home IP. I don't want to use a software like Kaspersky VPN. It will slow down my connection because of the many features that I don't need. Also, it is not free and I prefer to use a free solution.

Any idea about how to configure the VPN client? I think that the VPN client can be very simple to configure. I use a router that runs a VPN client. I just set it up and everything works fine. The VPN client provides a GUI to setup the connection and add/remove servers. It also provides a CLI that allows you to configure the IP of the router.

You can also create a script that starts the VPN client as a service or with a specific command.

Where is the SoftEther VPN config file?

I use SoftEther VPN to connect to my company's network, but I've been having some issues with it recently.

I'm trying to get into the Web GUI (which is basically a web browser) and I think it is where my config file is located. I can access the config file through command line (using the SoftEtherConfig.sh script), but I can't get into the GUI. I'm trying to get into it through Chrome, Firefox, and Internet Explorer. I'm assuming this means the config file is somewhere in the folder structure of the browser?

How do I manage remote computer's SoftEther VPN client?

I'm a big fan of SoftEther VPN client and it works perfectly well in my desktop computer.

It's so simple to connect and use. But I'm curious about the remote computer's VPN client. If my local computer is running Windows 10, I can install SoftEther on the remote computer (same architecture), which is just what I need. But how do I manage remote client when it's running on Linux system?

There are two ways. Using IP-based tunneling -. IP-based VPN uses a protocol called IP-based tunneling to provide a transparent proxy for a particular application such as a web browser. This means that a remote IP address or hostname is used to access resources on the Internet. For instance, you may access all the resources on a given IP address or hostname. If you are browsing to www.microsoft.com, you may be using the IP address or hostname 192.168. But if you click a link to www.firefox.com, then your browser makes a request to 192.1 and receives the response. The traffic looks as though it is being sent from 192.1 and 192.1 delivers it to a Web server somewhere else. (For more details, see the "IP-based Tunneling" section in the Security chapter of this document.)
With IP-based tunneling, applications are unaware that they are communicating through a remote host. Instead, they see the IP address of the destination Web server. For example, in the browser, when you click a link, it sends an HTTP request to 192. When 192.1 receives the request, it performs a TCP connection to port 80 of the intended IP address (192.2). Because the requested resource resides on 192.2, 192.1 proxies the request and returns the response to the browser.

If the application is an HTTP proxy, IP-based tunneling is compatible with almost all the protocols and services supported by a VPN service. But IP-based tunneling is not recommended when the traffic is encrypted. In some situations, users connect to the same network through VPN tunnels for both IP traffic and data encryption.
