What is the difference between OpenVPN and SSL VPN?
A VPN creates a private network over the Internet, similar to the way the web works.
However, this tunnel protects your privacy by encrypting everything that you send and receive and sending it through the VPN server in order to ensure anonymity. Your Internet connection appears to be coming from somewhere within Canada, so any data you transmit to them will be encrypted, therefore making the rest of the network, and those with whom you are communicating, less privy to what you are up to.
In September 2026, the U. Congress passed the Commercial Cybersecurity Services Act (CCSA) to establish mandatory commercial cybersecurity insurance for certain information system (IS) owners and operators. The new legislation was first applied in November, when the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued final rules governing cybersecurity insurance for certain IS owners and operators, including those engaged in finance, agriculture, government, health care, energy, high-risk research, or other critical infrastructure as required by 18 USC 3521(b)(3)(A)(i), (iii), (iv), and (v).
Internet Service Providers (ISPs) are not allowed to store your data but they store logs which track the data and data usage. It is a best practice to find an ISP that does not log your data but if this is not possible then use a service that hides your tracks such as Hotspot Shield, Ghostery, etc. VPN providers do keep logs. So if you were to connect to a VPN it would record and show the traffic and location history. In any case, most people connect their own laptop to a public Wi-Fi hotspot using OpenVPN, and this method has proven successful for people who like to browse the internet privately while having access to an open and untrusted Wi-Fi network.
We believe this has much more to do with how the browser handles a connection over a secure, encrypted channel. We know for sure we had Firefox set to allow third party cookies by default, that was the only setting change we made this week (for privacy reasons). For instance, just a few minutes ago we tried to load a page with ads, but after allowing the site and refreshing the ad request came back as timed out.
How to share VPN connection on Android without root?
We all know that the android device can only download/update apps from the Play Store by using the android application installation app.
That mean if you don't root your device, you can only install apps from Google Play. But what if you want to share an openvpn connection with a friend? You should have root access for installing non-playstore apps. So what should we do if we want to do this? There are two main solutions I know: using adb or Android's USB tethering feature.
Adb is a Linux utility for managing Android devices, allowing users to execute commands and control applications on an Android device connected to the computer. Basically, adb requires root access for doing those things.
Adb root. After the reboot, use the adb command to get a shell on your phone. Adb shell. Install the nautilus-wifi-connect plugin using the below command. This plugin allows you to connect to WiFi without needing to input your password.
If you don't have the plugin yet, you can install it using the below command. Sudo apt-get install nautilus-wifi-connect. And then you can use it using the below command. Nautilus --wifi.e. You'll see a dialog like the below image. Just click the button to connect your WiFi USB Tethering. The other option is using USB tethering. To do that, open up your browser and go to Once you're at the page, it will ask you to input your cell number. Enter it and continue to the next step.
Connect the USB cable to your computer and your phone. You'll find the file in your downloads folder.
Open the file and click the green button. The mobile hotspot should be enabled.
Now, you can connect to the internet using your wifi.e. However, this method is very unstable as the signal may disconnect anytime. If it disconnects, simply restart the hotspot. If it doesn't, try rebooting the phone.
I'm going to be writing about VPN and some things that are happening at Black Hat USA (and likely many other places) so feel free to let me know in the comments below about what you'd like to see.
