Does Mullvad charge monthly?

Do you have to pay for Mullvad?

In Sweden you don't

Mullvad is the most popular VPN Service provider for Swedes - with hundreds of thousands of Swedes using it to keep their internet anonymity.

Their services include fast servers around the world, great speeds, privacy oriented protocols, strong DDNS, no logging (although not 100% clear if that means no privacy at all), and good servers around the world.)

The privacy aspects of using a VPN service can sometimes be debated - but the privacy conscious will enjoy the fact that nothing gets logged or stored, no data that can compromise them will be logged or kept. This blog post will try to explain the reasons for this with the help of a fictional user called "The Sceptic". I'll describe the benefits of privacy and anonymity in general, what you would get out of not storing your data, and finally how all these issues can apply to Mullvad, one of the VPN-services that works great for the Swedish market!

The story so far: It's 2026 and The Sceptic wants to log into Facebook.com via Firefox. If she starts her normal browser history she'd normally find where she was at 3 years ago and could go back further, see Facebook activity from different time frames, etc. But today, The Sceptic wants to create a unique cookie and does something like this:

1st year: Start new session. 2nd year: Start new session, add cookies to first. 3rd year: New page => add new cookies. If she checks out her history later this evening she'd see exactly the same history, because the cookies store only information related to her identity. No history data is stored per se, no logs, nothing but an ID-number that identifies her. She's never connected to the internet while logged in, and she will never see any connection logs either.

The cookies keep her identity safe, in case somebody connects to her account without seeing the login form she might have been looking at earlier. So she can never be identified, even if the internet archive keeps her history forever.

This is how privacy can be a good thing.

Is Mullvad better than NordVPN?

NordVPN is a popular VPN provider that has managed to grow its customer base to about 11 million customers worldwide. However, it's not the most trusted or popular VPN provider. As such, it's never surprised anyone when we have asked them if they are better than NordVPN.

One of our readers who has been using NordVPN said that they were better and their speeds were much faster. We decided to do a test and decided to compare the speeds of the two. This will be our NordVPN vs Mullvad VPN comparison.

Let's start off with the specs of these two VPN providers. NordVPN Specs. NordVPN has its main server location in Panama. The server is located in a private data center which is managed by a company called the CryptoTrust Company. This company provides a level of privacy that is unparalleled.

The service uses high-end servers and there are no logs kept of its customers' browsing history. So, no worries that your internet traffic will be monitored.

NordVPN offers great speeds and a great customer service with their support team being extremely helpful and quick to respond to messages. What makes NordVPN unique is its support. They offer 24/7 customer support via their official website and their customer service staff is available in English and German as well as other languages.

Mullvad Specs. Mullvad is also a popular VPN provider and it is headquartered in Sweden. They also use SSL/TLS encryption to ensure that your online browsing and internet connection stays private. They have servers in locations all over the world so that you can choose your best server location depending on your needs. However, Mullvad does not keep any logs of your browsing history or usage. In other words, you can surf the internet without worrying about your browsing activity being monitored.

Another great thing about Mullvad is that it offers unlimited bandwidth and a no-limit option for all of its subscribers. How do we compare NordVPN vs Mullvad VPN. NordVPN is the most popular VPN provider on the planet.

Does Mullvad charge monthly?

Is the subscription renewal is a one-off fee or is there a fixed charge that covers for all renewals?

No subscription? No ads then. Mullvad is the only VPN provider offering a trial period. But there are other very good free VPNs out there that do not require a contract or even a month subscription - I listed a few of them on the page linked above.

What country are you based in and where is your data physically stored? I am in Sweden. The data of my customers is stored on our servers in Stockholm.

Is Mullvad geo-blocked? If so what countries? Mullvad will not show any advertisements in the blocked countries. However, most consumers in our customer base are also located in these countries. A growing number of countries are being censored in Europe.

How many users do you have? How many servers? In total we currently have over 500,000 active customers. We have 2 custom data centers with 30 servers per datacenter. Each server holds 20,000 IP addresses. That's a lot of IPs!

Does Mullvad support Bitcoin payments? We only accept fiat payments via MasterCard and Visa. We are in the process of adding Bitcoin to our payments options.

If I want the service to continue I need to pay monthly. Why does this service continue to exist if it doesn't offer real functionality or add value to me? I believe a subscription model is better when offering a paid service. However, we do not believe that a year commitment is realistic in a technology as rapidly developing as VPNs are. For users switching ISPs, there will come a time when they don't need a VPN service. We expect these VPN clients to switch off their VPN accounts in due time. We also expect that ISPs will offer some form of free DNS or proxy service in an attempt to reduce the need for a paid VPN service in future. That said, free VPNs are an issue since they allow for the widespread use of VPNs, thus making every ISP see a reduced profitability.
