Can Google detect fake reviews?

If I see a great review of one app and it has hundreds of fake reviews from other people, my trust in that app goes down.

How can I check if any review is fake or not?

There's no way to definitively tell for sure, but it's possible Google can see what's going on and flag anything out of the ordinary. Google says it will only use information they get from people who are legitimately reviewing the apps in question, however, and they've had in the past. Does this mean they will flag any app that has reviews coming in after launch day when noone actually had access to their "live data"? I'm going to guess they'd want at least 20 reviews before doing anything, or an app that's been in beta for long enough that there aren't many early adopters - in either case, they're using their judgment, not some algorithmic rule. You should be aware, though, that they have an opt-out from the review program - if you make a stink about someone using fake reviews to influence your rating, they're likely to remove your review and/or delete your account.

Does Google block fake reviews?

I was a member of a popular forum and people posted fake reviews for their products.

The thread had hundreds of participants and each review was posted for only a few dollars.

It was clearly spam. The forum banned me for saying so.

I have a question here. Has Google blocked all fake reviews? Or did they just suspend my account? It does seem like they would block it. Is it only a matter of the reviews being posted on other websites or is there another component to it?

I don't know about any direct connection between Google and Spam, I haven't seen a thing like that in Google help pages. But I can tell you that Google will NEVER approve any kind of spam.

Well, I'm not really sure. But my impression was that they might have blocked some of the links that are used to submit those fake reviews. Perhaps this was the case. It's always possible that Google could be working with other companies like Amazon. But I don't think that's the case for reviews.

What happens when it happens for you then? Your account gets suspended automatically without any chance to contact Google at all. I'm pretty sure it happened to me for my first spam complaint a couple of years ago.

We can say your posting was spam, but that wouldn't answer your question. Has google stopped allowing those reviews? There is no official policy against posting reviews about competitors' products. I also don't think there is an official policy that states that reviews of your own products are okay.

Google's stance seems to be "anything goes". If you post fake reviews that do not violate any terms of service (spam), or violate any law (tapping phones or whatever), then the only thing that Google can get angry at is a violation of those terms. Google could not possibly take action against a person for violating the spam terms unless that person has been identified as a particular spammer.

All a spammer can do is put up links to other sites. There are spam forums and forums about how to submit spam sites, etc. They even have spam blogs. These are easy to identify.

Are fake reviews worth it?

Let me start by saying that no one knows if the following is accurate.

But some people believe it and, in a time where everyone wants to make as much money as possible online and there are so many ways to cheat your way to a quick buck, people are willing to take advantage of all of them. So, what is it all about? ? Fake reviews? I thought were talking about fake jobs. As soon as we get the word out that a job is fake, suddenly everyone knows to run away like the plague. We can't really call a thing or a service fake if we know that people should never do anything even remotely resembling that.

But you know how the story goes - some people think they saw someone actually doing something, something they might have thought was cool and decided to join in and then everyone on the Internet just eats it up. It wasn't even about some silly game, it was a legit business and it worked fine for a while until the cheaters showed up and ruined it for everyone.

Now, imagine the same thing happening with jobs - a decent job which actually works gets posted and the cheaters come out of the woodwork and decide to start putting some up front money into a job which will surely not do anything and that they can't even begin to make money off of. All the money goes to the people who are just gaming the system and making some quick cash with nothing to show for it.

This is so ridiculously, ridiculously common now that I just want to shake people. That's like finding a new, better job that didn't require a degree just because everyone knows that going back to school is a total waste of time. Yes, getting some fake reviews is probably not an issue if you're trying to avoid scams, but it's not hard to pull off some really nasty ones, especially if someone was willing to be paid to leave a review on your behalf.
