How do you use obfuscated servers?
The server is obfuscated (hacked) by modifying the code of the server and using some obfuscation tool. There are many of them, but here I will talk about Obfuscated-Java (OJ), the most popular one.
In my experience, this is the most common way to hack an obfuscated server. Usually, it's enough to add a few lines of code to the server (just few lines, nothing serious, just some "Hello World" program, for example) and the server will be launched.
The obfuscation process usually consists of replacing the original class names and methods with something else. This way, if the server is patched, it will not have any trace in the code of the server.
As you can see, this is a very easy method to hack a server. You can even use it on your own servers. But what is the point of doing this?

How do I enable obfuscated servers in NordVPN?

When looking into these options, you will also notice that these servers have limited usage. It is usually the way it should be with all servers that hide your real IP address, they should also be used cautiously and should not be used if you are not sure what you are doing; as I discussed previously, even when obfuscated servers are enabled, it is still best to connect to un-obfuscated servers first. In these cases, you would want to just keep the default settings in order to use the server without leaking your IP.

Hong Kong: Singapore: New York: NordVPN does not log any information about you. They do store the IP address of the users but this is anonymized. This means that, even if they decided to sell this information to law enforcement authorities, they cannot connect it to you. All the information is kept in a central database, and the IP address of the user is masked by another, random one.
Their explanation in the FAQ is very vague. It could be that NordVPN is simply stating that it has taken steps to keep users information anonymous, not that they are actually anonymizing their IP addresses. They do make a very good point about the fact that your data could be sold, however.
But the point of a VPN is that you should have anonymity, right? How can you have anonymity if your IP address is not anonymous? If you use a VPN, you should not be worried about having your identity associated with your IP address. I would like to know the exact details of what NordVPN is doing and if they are indeed anonymizing your IP address. If they are, I would like to know why they are doing it. If they are not, I want to know how you can have complete anonymity if your IP address is connected to your identity.

Why are obfuscated servers grayed out in NordVPN?

Should i use obfuscated vpn?
I have a couple of questions for you guys: 1) I have to provide a VPN that can operate in countries with various level of internet censorship. 2) I'm gonna provide them an IP address so they can connect and access the internet (with their own router/modem/router). 3) Since this isn't going to be a business site, we're only going to be providing it as a free service to our users. We're gonna require from them to send us their location and a few other details, which they're required to enter in the vpn configuration page before they can use it.
4) They're not even going to use the VPN for gaming. They just wanna stay secure on the internet.

I would look for a free service - even if it's only from China, you can use Tor and then a US/European VPN (if you choose one that supports it) to exit Russia, Turkey, etc. I don't see how a free solution is less effective in the long run than something like the free PPTP. And even then, you can do encryption just fine.
A paid VPN costs money, and if you want a working experience, you can't use a free VPN provider unless they are willing to help you out with tech support or something. Even if they give you the right tools and resources for doing it on your own, if you want to make it secure, you need to take care of it.
