Is obfuscated VPN slower?
I recently set up a VPN on my PC for general use.
I've used various forms of VPN before, but I've never really had a problem with them. I know that there's been some "issues" in the past with people complaining about the speed of the VPN, but I never really paid much attention to that aspect.
I have just discovered the "obfuscated VPN", which claims to be twice as fast as your regular VPN, or even faster. I'm wondering if this is true, and if so, would it be worth paying twice the price for such a speed increase? Re: Obfuscated VPN slower? I don't know what the speed difference is between obfuscated VPN and regular VPN. But if the answer to your question is yes, I would say it is not worth it. The obfuscated VPN only offers a few additional features which are nice but most people will not pay extra for them.
Thanks for the reply, but I think I'll just go with the standard version, and not worry about it. The reason you have to pay twice the price is because there is no difference in the speed. The same amount of time is taken to transfer the data whether you use the obfuscated VPN or not. The only difference is that your internet connection will show a normal IP address, instead of the obfuscated VPN IP address.
How do I enable obfuscated servers in NordVPN?
I've read the NordVPN FAQs but it does not say.
It does not mention it, and I was unable to find it even if I Googled it. There are just instructions about how to change your DNS resolvers, or set your DNS servers on Windows 10.
I can definitely see how that would be useful as a novice user to keep their DNS resolvers hidden, but how does one get obfuscated servers in a NordVPN setup? If there is no instruction about this in the FAQs, then this means that NordVPN simply hasn't thought about this scenario, which does not reflect well on them. There may be a separate client for them, or maybe I missed it somehow. If I have the option, I will most likely choose to use a VPN service that doesn't allow obfuscated servers. I just want to know how to disable it on my own connection.
This question has caused me a lot of headaches. As a result, I decided to make a list for all readers in order to make it easier to follow.
First of all, we need to look at NordVPN and its two options: Tunnel mode and server mode. I am not going to explain their benefits because I think it's all fairly self-explanatory. My only advice here is to try them and compare them.
As an example of what the difference looks like, here is NordVPN Tunnel mode with obfuscated servers turned on. You can notice that the option that was previously available is now grayed out. As you can see, obfuscated servers were something that was offered as an exclusive feature in NordVPN. However, those days are over.
What is the difference between obfuscated and double VPN?
Obfuscated VPN: A VPN that works by replacing the IP address of your machine with a new IP address.
Obfuscated VPNs are often advertised as secure because they do not allow traffic analysis, but are still vulnerable to packet inspection. In addition, obfuscated VPNs can be used to perform network attacks against other devices behind the same VPN gateway.
Double VPN: A VPN that also allows you to access the web and the internet through a second connection. Double VPNs can be used to perform network attacks against other devices behind the same VPN gateway.
Which is better? Double VPNs are more secure because they make it harder to identify the target and intercept any traffic. Obfuscated VPNs are more secure because they can't be detected by network attacks. However, they are still vulnerable to packet inspection.
Obfuscated VPNs are faster than double VPNs. Double VPNs are more secure than obfuscated VPNs. If you need to connect to a remote office or another remote network, a double VPN is recommended. Double VPNs have more benefits than obfuscated VPNs. They are recommended for all types of users.
Double VPNs are recommended for companies and organizations. Obfuscated VPNs are recommended for individuals. Double VPNs can be used by both individuals and organizations. When should I use obfuscated VPNs and when double VPNs? Double VPNs are recommended for all types of users. If you want to avoid being detected and intercepted by network attacks, obfuscated VPNs are recommended. Double VPNs can be used to avoid being detected and intercepted by network attacks. When should I use double VPNs and when obfuscated VPNs?
Which VPNs use obfuscated servers?
This question has been asked before, and although it has a simple answer, very few people actually get it.
So, for those who are still confused, here is a more in-depth answer.
Obfuscated servers mean just what you think they do: servers used to bypass geographical restrictions (like the Great Firewall of China or the Iranian government's internet censorship system). VPN companies often have a long list of server locations. The problem is that in order to make the countries they're licensed in appear to be as nearby as possible, they disguise the location of each server by adding dummy locations to the middle of nowhere. What appears to be a location in rural England may actually be a location in Siberia. Or sometimes they'll use an "unknown country" like Canada or Australia, which will almost certainly be just an address you can't visit.
However, they may only use one location, or maybe a handful of them (like NordVPN). That's why they're called obfuscated servers, because they have to be pretty cunning to get away with it. The best way to look at it is that the VPNs are using some clever algorithms to mix together locations in different countries to make sure that they are hard to trace. It's a pretty ingenious way of doing things. But of course, you shouldn't be fooled by all this. Some VPNs are just using obfuscated servers, while others aren't.
So, to find out which ones are hiding their real locations, you need to do a little research. In order to make life a little easier, I've put together a list of a few of the more popular obfuscated server providers.
The most widely available obfuscated servers in the world, NordVPN is a leading provider of high-quality Virtual Private Networks. They offer one of the most extensive selection of obfuscated servers, making sure that you won't ever get stuck using servers in third-world dictatorships or oppressive countries. All their servers are located either in a safe location (like North Korea, Russia, Syria, Kazakhstan or Iran) or in a location that isn't easily found (like a cave in the middle of Antarctica or the depths of Hell).
