Is Roku easy for the elderly to use?

My 86-year-old mother is learning the Roku streaming set.

She wants to watch movies she's been buying. If my experience can help any of you please take time to read this. I'm new at this and want my experience to help me select which Roku is best for her. Please advise

By the way, after several minutes of surfing the Roku site as well as searching the web, she reports that she found a good movie for her at Blockbuster as well as a free one. She says that she was able to get around easily and did not have any trouble.

My experience so far leads me to believe she'll like Roku. Any suggestions welcome. There will be a lot to learn, but I hope we can enjoy the learning experience together!

My two cents: I would skip the HD (for one more reason than those others that have already been stated.) Skip the remote -- it will only get in the way. You can get an IR receiver, and that would be one less thing to worry about.

Skip the built in navigation -- if you skip the HD, then getting around to the right program is pretty easy. Just start with one of the movies in the library and go from there. I would highly recommend either the Xbox or PS2 remotes -- the one on the left of the picture below

Yes! Thanks for the recommendation. No one here has bought an xbox, yet we do plan to buy a PS2 for her. We like to save and it's not like we'd get more use out of an Xbox if she got the PS2. So, the Roku comes back. I agree she will get used to it fast.

Do you plan to remain living together? It sounds to me that your Mom is old enough to be responsible for herself in many ways. She gets around okay. She might feel awkward, having to figure out something new like a new television, but she will get over it.
