What is the say something training program?

Say Something, Inc.

is a program that uses peer-to-peer conversations to stop cyber-bullying of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth. There is no mention on their website of what the program actually entails. The only way one can learn about the program is by contacting various schools and businesses about joining Say Something. These companies/schools are paid to participate and the goal of Say Something is to get large enough that everyone in America will know about it.

On January 18th, 2024 Gay Pride Weekend, a teen was kicked off an American Airlines jet plane in New York City at 30,000 feet. He hung up on his mother when she asked him what he was wearing that he looked scary. The teen is from a prominent family. This incident was broadcast around the nation on the news.

In response to this incident Say Something went on a news blitz. They were going to interview these two teens in Chicago. This boy was kicked off a plane and this girl was told she couldn't wear her shirt in the public school bus because of the language it contained (slut). She was 12 years old.

The response to this on the Say Something message board was to boycott anything affiliated with gay teens. The boycott resulted in hundreds of websites being created that were homophobic and said nothing. Many of the websites that were started included links to the websites of Say Something.

Here are some highlights from Say Anything that have been posted on message boards. After reading you guys' blogs I realize that I am still fighting the same battles that I was back then. I believe my feelings and emotions on the topic of bullying have changed. At least the knowledge that I had helped one teen might be able to help someone else avoid that pain and hurt that I felt. But I doubt it. I feel like I was lied to when they told me that the purpose of Say Something is to stop cyber-bullying I think there are more productive ways to do this than bullying. I am no longer willing to participate in their mission.
