How do you give negative feedback to students?

I used to have an English teacher who would say, The grade you received for this assignment is not your grade.

It is a reflection of your effort in the assignment, your understanding of the concept, and your ability to communicate it to us. I think this was a good way to think about it because it allowed me to think about my performance as a student as part of my overall performance.

I recently started teaching at a university in the US and they have this idea of the graded classroom. Students take their exams and then the teacher gives a grade. This means that students know what they will get. My first question when I saw the model was, ?

This model seems to have a lot of flaws. For example, what if I wanted to give a student a negative grade on a test? Is it okay for me to give a student a negative grade? What if I give a student an incomplete on a test? How can we give students a grade when they do not know what it is? In my opinion, grades are a tool for measuring student performance. Grades should only be used to compare one student with other students. In my university, I am not allowed to give out negative grades. However, I am allowed to do things like, You didn't do a very good job on this assignment.

I was lucky enough to have a teacher that I really liked. He taught at a private university in Canada. When he gave me a grade, he told me how he was going to give it. He said, I am going to give you a mark of X, which means, 'You did something wrong.' You did not do a good job on this assignment.

I don't remember any times that he ever gave me a negative grade. I never had a grade less than an A in his class. That was the most I ever received in one class. I think he believed that grades were important but that the teacher was the one that should decide what was going to be given.

I was in college at the time and I remember getting a final paper back that said, You did not do a good job on this assignment.

You make it positive.

We know that there are things we can do better, but we also want to keep the positive things and build on them.

"This year is even better than last year, but we have to keep going and try to better each year." Wang was more than ready to face the challenge when he joined the team. "After my first two days in the league, the coach told me, 'You're the fastest player. If you play good defence, you will have a good season.'

"I was so scared but I tried to give myself a positive attitude. I'm so happy I made the roster and now I'm in a new league and my second season."

Despite the fact that China's league is the world's third largest professional league with about a quarter of the worlds population, its fan base is much smaller than Major League Soccer and its fanbase struggles to support its teams financially. Despite that, several countries across the globe would love to be able to offer Wang the opportunity to play in the Premier League and in fact, the Chinese league would like that, too. China's government is looking at creating a domestic league with clubs owned by the government and it will be playing a regular season of 45 games beginning in January and Wang would like nothing more than to play for one of the best teams in the country. His goals are simple, though. "I just want to play good for the fans and help them enjoy the game. I want to score goals. It's all about the fans," said Wang. "I want to show them I am the best player in the world."

Wang wants to do more than win gold medals and reach the World Cup. The young star from the People's Republic of China has put his stamp on the sport and the way it is played around the globe. He wants to win the World Cup.

"Now I'm confident I can beat a lot of players and I think I'm one of the best. I want to keep improving and playing well and try to go to the World Cup," he said.

That's the goal and Wang is focused on reaching it. But it won't be easy as China will have to pass the United States and Brazil to get there.
