What is so special about Redmond salt?

Redmond salt has become very popular in recent years and is now available in the majority of food stores across the country.

It is a natural salt that is free from additives and is the result of Redmond's unique geological and geographical position. The salt is mined from the Redmond Trough, which is an extensive geological structure located off the coast of Western Australia. The salt is collected from a variety of depths, ranging from 15 to 35 metres, and is then concentrated by skimming.

The salt is harvested by hand in small, shallow pits. The first step is to use a water pump to lift the salt out of the pit. This is then poured into large trays to allow it to dry before it is transferred into large, insulated trucks. Once it has dried, the salt is crushed and then passed through a roller mill to further concentrate the salt.

The salt is then stored in large silos before it is pumped into the desalination plant where it is purified and evaporated. The product is then tested for its quality, packaged and sent to the customer.
