Why you should use content curation in your L&D strategy and how to do it?

What is the main purpose of content curation?

To answer this, I'd just turn to two recent conversations I have had with some of my colleagues.

One has cited the role that curation plays for those starting a business and the other has cited its place in the world of marketing, especially at an agency level where you are trying to stand out as a service provider.

Curating for the Entrepreneur. In the B2B sector, this could mean content marketing for a local business looking for new customers and content creation for businesses that already have customer relationships and could be the primary supplier of an online publication's content. The role of content curation becomes critical when the business owner becomes an editor and creates content that is tailored to their own unique needs and aspirations. They must take these opportunities provided by content curation, filter them and then create something from what they received that meets the business objectives they set out to achieve.

Why do we even need this? The answer is not quite clear but it is one that could affect all business owners; as well as influencers, bloggers, small business owners and agencies looking to generate leads. It might seem obvious that there is always more to find out about new products, services or developments and having someone else search and collate it into a list might save time and effort.

But think about it, if a customer is not happy with how a brand handled that relationship, then that has an effect on the brand's reputation. By listening to the concerns of other people and making an effort to engage with what they have to say and perhaps respond directly, the business can start repairing that brand relationship.

How to Curate: In Your Own Way. Think about the information you are gathering and filtering, and what it would look like if you created it yourself. As your editorial calendar grows to include more events, the time-scale to be prepared will shrink and so, having the right amount of information to hand will increase the chances of a successful engagement. However, it should never include anything to do with personal opinion or preference. Instead it should highlight anything to do with market trends, news, the latest happenings, opinions, reviews, research and anything that will impact the business organisation.

The way we curate content has certainly changed in recent years with the advent of Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and other content-sharing channels.
