I am a long time user of Comodo and love it but have been hearing mixed reviews lately about the free version of Comodo.

This sounds like you are trying to use a beta program, something you could expect a vendor to provide. This is not the way Comodo releases programs. They will release a stable program with the first release date of the year. There are no changes made before the 1st of the year, meaning any beta programs have been done and this is not a new program. If you need a beta program, you should ask for one from them, it is not a good marketing tool and may not work well as advertised.
