It is easy for people who live near a city or major metropolitan area to get work. I know it's hard, but it's easier in this day and age to get work, you can just go to your nearest big city and get an interview.

But when you live in a remote part of the world, and are trying to build a career from the ground up well it's not as easy to find work. Let's look at a few areas in Australia that really do need skilled people, like the construction industry, the health industry and IT.

To find work in these fields you're really going to have to travel. What happens when you move away from your friends, family and where you grew up. Well that is what I am doing and it is difficult. I have lived in the US, Canada and now on the outskirts of Brisbane. But it's really hard to find good work here. Most of the tech companies I apply to in Brisbane say I need to move further out into the suburbs. It gets really frustrating when I have a good skill set, and I can do more work with better pay than anyone else in my field. But I get turned down for positions because my application was just not good enough. My resume looked like an advertisement. I made a mistake, and I am currently in the process of updating it so it looks better.

But even if I improve my resume, I may not get a call back. I am getting discouraged and thinking I may just be doing something wrong. You might ask yourself:

Virtual Assistant: If you have your own website, you can hire someone to help you manage your content and email. These jobs are usually advertised on sites like Fiverr.

TaskRabbit: This is a pretty cool way to make money by doing odd jobs around your neighborhood. There are a ton of jobs on TaskRabbit, and you can get paid quickly.

My wife and I are trying to build up our side business by selling handmade soaps at flea markets and local farmers' markets. When you work from an office, you are 100% focused on your work. I would say that, on average, I spend 75% of my time on my remote job working. But, it's not always like this. Sometimes I'm at my desk at 11AM, at 4PM, or even in the evening. I never forget that, you know. So, how to work more? My goal is to get that feeling of working like I am at my desk, but without being there. Some things you can try: 1 - You don't have to work at your desk. Try to do it in a different room.
