How to share location permanently on Android?

Does Android have family location sharing?

I was reading an interview with Google Mobile President Mark Randall (I think - can't find the text) in which he mentions a feature that you can share location with your family but I can't find any documentation of it and they haven't implemented it yet. I see a lot of talk about it.

We just got Android 4.0.3 last week, so I am looking at it for the first time. There is a new version of Location Services, but nothing seems to have changed that allows me to add family sharing.

Has anyone found this feature? If not, can we expect it to be available? Does it have a time table? Is it based on NFC or wifi? Can I do it manually on my own phone if the API is not implemented? Edit: Nevermind. I looked again and found a couple of articles that mention it. Thanks everyone for answering so quickly.

That was an example of the kind of information that isn't available on Google's site. All you know is that it's going to work with their next generation phones. What other info would be out there?

There was some specific feature you can look for which you should be able to see in the source code, but then you'd know only about one specific implementation. Shane Nov 1 '12 at 11:11. 1

@Shane This is true. However, this question can be considered a "solution" to the question about the API. That being said, I'm not sure I'd consider that as answer on its own. Either it works, or it doesn't. The only thing that makes it not answerable at all is if the API does not exist yet.
