How can I make it read every TCP packet in the pcap file or can this behavior be configured? If you're running python on Linux, try scapy2 instead of scapy. Scapy2 is not officially supported (or distributed with the python package), but this one's a perfect replacement. The reason scapy2 is more mature is because it has a lot more features/bugfixes and is easier to work with. How do I open a PCAP file?

I would like to know what the easiest way is to open a PCAP file.

I was told it would be a Wireshark file. I've tried several ways to do this but I am getting mixed results. I'm not so well versed with wireshark so I want to make sure what I'm doing is correct.

Here's what I have done. I downloaded a packet capture file from my router. The source is 192.168.14 and the destination is 192.22, both of which belong to my own wireless network. However when I try to open it I get this error.

In the PCAP viewer you're trying to view a file that is larger than the maximum length allowed (65535 bytes). In Wireshark that means that the packet capture contains too much data (it's very, very likely because the file is really long). Are you sure that the source IP (192.14) belongs to your own wireless network? Did you sniff on an outgoing interface and not an incoming interface? Did you save the packets before you opened them and are you sure that these packets were really transmitted to the other host and that the connection wasn't established in the router? The file that I'm trying to open is a .pcap file. It has the IP address of the source as 192. So I know that it's my own wireless network. If the packets that I'm trying to open are supposed to be traffic going from my router to my computer, then I should be capturing on a switch. The last thing I did before trying to open this file is to bring down all the interfaces on my switch. If I'm not doing something wrong, it looks like everything is in order.

Is there some sort of command I can use to open the file? It's not as though I can't open any files since I already have the .pcap file I'm trying to open. Should I try another version of Wireshark?

What exactly is your goal in sniffing traffic on a switch? Are you trying to diagnose the performance of your wireless router? If so, why? If you're looking for diagnostic info about your wireless network you should be using one of the WEP/WPA2 sniffing utilities out there.
