What is a good family friendly series to watch on Netflix?

Hello!

My name is Lillian and I've been streaming anime for years now. If you'd like to know more about me or what I watch check out the About Me page.

If you're new to the site, welcome! You'll see that I don't focus one specific genre but rather cover everything anime on a wide range of topics including anime reviews, discussion of a variety of series from the past to present, and interviews with some of the most respected and prolific voice actors, illustrators, authors and even a few directors who I am personally acquainted with. If you have any questions I'm always happy to help! Feel free to take a look at my favorites and you may find that there's a series you'd like to add to your queue. I've recently become interested in getting back into my childhood love of reading manga and am going to be spending a lot of time digging through my piles of discarded anime manga to find anything worth saving. Until then, here are a few suggestions of good family friendly shows that you may enjoy and want to add to your watch list.

In no particular order (click on the name for my recommendation): Ichiban j to Tenk Yshi is a manga anthology that takes place over several years, so if you're just looking for something to watch over an extended period of time, it might be worth giving it a try. I'm not sure how long the episodes are or how many are actually available, but I've read enough that I'm sure it's worth it. It's part of the ongoing anthology that also includes Urusei Yatsura, and it has a lot of the same feel that was so enjoyable in the original Urusei Yatsura manga. (You can read the full review on the site.)

A few notes about Ichiban j to Tenk Yshi: The first couple of chapters are a bit confusing since the story is being told from the perspective of the young boys while their parents are in the hospital dying. Since they are children it makes sense that their parents don't have a full understanding of what's going on, so the boys give their version of events to their parents in letters that they send them. These first chapters are easy to ignore and not too important.

Are there any good series to watch on Amazon Prime?

The Black Mirror, as always, is a good one to get started with.

While it's only three seasons long (and not at all that long if you just consider the two episodes per season), it contains most of the show's best ideas. It's got some of the most memorable characters, and some of the best concepts, in all of science fiction/fantasy TV. It's also a bit more cerebral than most of the other series. It's definitely worth checking out.

Another thing I like about the Black Mirror is that even though it's just 3 seasons, it's only 6 episodes short for each season. So if you don't want to wait a while for a whole new season to come out, it's not too much of a commitment to just download an episode to watch. It's usually really cheap on Amazon Prime, so if you're just looking for something to download, you should check it out.

What is the number one rated Netflix series?

The one that always has a big-name cast?

The one that you just know will be getting an Emmy nomination?

The series with the highest volume of people tweeting about it on Twitter. That's what the folks over at Vulture are looking to solve next. In a new article, they ask What is the Best Netflix Series of 2016? To answer that question, Vulture's team of researchers pulled together data on a large sample of Netflix viewers, and compared it to data from IMDB's user ratings of movies and TV shows. What they found was that some of the most buzzworthy TV shows were ones with the most active viewers on Twitter.

They then decided to take those same shows, rank them by the amount of Twitter activity around them, and compare them to the top 10 shows in the IMDB's 2024 TV critic's rankings. The result? The top-ranked series on both lists The Crown and Stranger Things had the most Twitter activity of any Netflix show on the list, which means that Vulture found them to be the best Netflix show of 2024.

They didn't stop there. They also did the same kind of analysis on TV shows that Netflix released in the last 12 months, and again, the shows that received the most Twitter activity tended to end up as the top shows of the year. Shows like Better Things, Lady Dynamite, and My Next Guest Needs No Introduction all ended up on the top 10 list of TV shows released in 2024.

The final bit of data that Vulture provided us came from Netflix, who ranked their original programming series from best to worst. What they found was that the top 10 shows ranked in their own category were the ones that ranked highest in Vulture's rankings, with Stranger Things and The Crown taking the top two spots.

Vulture's team also asked viewers of their Twitter profile about their favorite shows. They then looked at the list of shows that got the most votes, and concluded that the top 10 lists are actually closer to how people voted.
