What Netflix movies are not available in the US?

As you might have noticed from this week's news, Netflix has made the bold decision to start streaming some of their original content outside the United States.

While some content is available in the US (and even on DVD), the majority of it is not. This is due to licensing issues, copyright issues, and availability issues. There are over 3,000 episodes of popular TV shows that are only available in the US (and no, these aren't all movies), and more than 7,000 films.

This can be quite frustrating for fans who want to enjoy Netflix but cannot, as the content simply isn't available. Thankfully, there are some alternatives that work around this problem.

How do I stream Netflix outside of the US? The first step is to go to Netflix's website. While most of the content is not available outside of the US, you can find many TV series, movies, and even original content. A lot of these titles are only available in the US, but if you look hard enough, you can find them.

Once you are on the site, you can select the country where you would like to view the content. As of this writing, the US is not listed, so you will need to select Canada or United Kingdom. For many people, this is a good starting point.

At this point, you will need to sign into your Netflix account. You can sign up for a free account by clicking on the sign up for Netflix button on the home page. Once you have a login, you will be asked if you would like to add a credit card for your account. If you do not already have a card, you can create one right away.

Once you have a card, you can click add credit card and then add the card information. The card can be used to pay for content on the site, and if you have a lot of content, this can save a lot of time.

The next step is to search for content. Clicking the gear icon at the top of the page will allow you to search for content. Search by Title, Author, or Genre. This will allow you to find content that you would like to watch.

What's on UK Netflix but not US?

I've been reading some old UK Netflix reviews, and it looks like a lot of people in the UK have had issues with not being able to watch older US content on the service, or having access to certain countries.

I'm guessing that's probably because US companies don't have licensing agreements with some countries, but even if that is the case, surely this is an issue for US services too, and not just for UK? If there's a problem with rights somewhere, isn't that an issue for every service around the world? I'm happy to see some UK content on US Netflix, but if you're in the UK, why can't you watch some US content? It's a global issue. And yes, Netflix should have licensing deals in place for most countries, and have to respect them. I suppose all that we can do is hope the big companies work it out before things like this can go on.

What is available on Netflix USA only?

To get a better understanding of Netflix streaming outside of North America, I took a look at some of the other territories that receive different content from North American Netflix.

France. With the French Netflix App being updated in January 2026, it's likely that France is currently receiving more new content. With 5 Star Wars and Marvel films, Black Mirror, The Witcher, Westworld and Game of Thrones to choose from, there's loads of great TV to watch. With some of our favourite Netflix series like Stranger Things, Dark, Legion and The Handmaid's Tale, there's really no need to import Netflix content as you already have what you want right here! The downside is that we didn't see any Disney on hold titles. Most other countries have seen a few, which could mean that Disney films may not be available before the UK release of Captain Marvel, but more on that another time.

Ireland. There are no real benefits to living in Ireland for Netflix. There is just so much content on our side of the pond.

It's worth pointing out that Ireland has its own Netflix account called IRNetflix, meaning that there will be different types of Netflix content for you depending on where you live. For this article, I'm going to be looking at the US Netflix account.

There aren't really any benefits over the UK Netflix but, you should note that all your favourite Netflix shows will be available on the new Roku Streaming Stick 4K when it launches. You may want to import it when it hits the UK later this year, as it's possible that IRNetflix might only offer the US account content.

Spain. As with Ireland, there are not many differences when it comes to the Netflix experience. The US Netflix account will work for Spain, but most of the content will be identical.

I recently ran into a very interesting question about Netflix, which sparked some great conversation with other people on the film festival circuit.

The question was: What's the best foreign film on Netflix? This is an excellent question. It's a great conversation starter, and I think it reveals a lot about the diversity of Netflix's content offerings.

In recent years, Netflix has gone from being known primarily for binge-watching shows to becoming a significant source of films and TV shows from around the world. I think it's fair to say that the company has made good progress in this regard.

The vast majority of Netflix's content is of American origin, but the list of new offerings is growing every week. In a lot of ways, it's like the equivalent of the old VHS tapes. At the time, VHS tapes were hard to find, but people who wanted to watch movies had to buy them, one by one, from some store that was on every block in town.

With Netflix, you don't have to do any of that. You don't have to search for a movie that you want to watch. You can pick whatever you want and go. There are no limits.

It's also a bit like the early days of the web. With the web, there were some interesting sites, but you also had to go to a particular site, pick out what you wanted, and then wait for it to load. With Netflix, it's like it's the same thing but you don't have to do all of that. It just picks up your subscription automatically and streams the movies.

That's not to say that Netflix has become a wasteland. There are a few things that Netflix does particularly well, and I think it's important for people to know about them. It also means that there are some excellent films that people might not have heard of.

If you're a Netflix subscriber, you already know that Netflix is a good place to find high-quality independent movies, including arthouse, documentaries, and foreign films. But you probably don't know that there are also lots of interesting original films on the service. You can also find a lot of fascinating and intriguing shows that are worth watching.
