What is the difference between SOCKS proxy and VPN?
The SOCKS proxy is an application that acts as a tunnel for data.
It allows a user to send and receive data through a proxy server. The SOCKS proxy does not encrypt the data; only the IP address is changed. The VPN encrypts the data and changes the IP address of the client. So, what is the difference between these two?
The SOCKS proxy is a very simple application. The server which you use to connect to the Internet can be anything like an HTTP server, or it can be a firewall. The main purpose of the SOCKS proxy is to give anonymous access to the Internet. It only changes the IP address of the client. For example, if you want to visit a website through a proxy server, you will see a lot of websites as it is a proxy server. The proxy server gets the IP address of your computer from your ISP and gives you the IP address of the website you are visiting. The proxy server will charge a fee to the user.
The VPN encrypts the data and changes the IP address of the client. For example, if you want to visit a website through a proxy server, you will not be able to visit the website because the proxy server will not give the IP address of the website you are visiting. So, it can be said that the SOCKS proxy is a more complex application compared to the VPN. You should choose the VPN if you want to protect your data from hackers or snoopers.
How does the SOCKS proxy work? The SOCKS proxy is a software that allows you to access the Internet through a proxy server. The proxy server hides your IP address and changes the IP address to the IP address of the proxy server. The SOCKS proxy works in a way that it converts a connection from your IP address to the IP address of the proxy server. It is easy to use and is not hard to set up. However, there are some drawbacks of using a SOCKS proxy.
The proxy server takes some money from the user to give the service. The proxy server charges the user for the data that he/she uses.
The proxy server is very slow in working compared to the VPN. The proxy server is limited in number of IP addresses that it can handle.
How does a socks proxy work?
I have a Windows Server 2025 R2 machine that I use as a web server.
I also have a virtual server running on this machine. For reasons of anonymity I can't tell you which one it is. In order to use the Internet I need to set up a Socks proxy.
I have a question. My virtual server allows me to go to a website using the ip address of the server. But it also allows me to go to a website using the ip address of the virtual server. How does this work? How can I go to a website that is hosted on my virtual server if the ip address of the virtual server is not the same as the ip address of the server? I don't understand how this is possible.
What is a socks proxy? When I use the term Socks proxy, what I am referring to is a machine that allows an external client to connect to a remote host using the protocol SOCKS. My understanding is that the Socks proxy is a Linux machine that connects to another machine (in my case, the virtual server). The Socks proxy then directs the traffic from the client through the remote host.
So why does the virtual server allow me to access a website using its ip address but not the ip address of the server? How can the Socks proxy redirect the traffic to the virtual server? The only thing I can think of is that the Socks proxy is also acting as a proxy for the virtual server. If that's the case, how does it know what ip address to direct the traffic through? ?
